the bows are in vertical position but to pre-
vent such movement when the bows are
swung to any other position. This abso-
lutely locks the bows against movement to
5 the upper ends of the slots when the cover is
in open position.
If preferred, the. key-hole slots may be en-
tirely done away with and the tongues 16
merely perforated to receive the ends .of
10 bows having a reduced terminal 31 as shown
in Fig. 8, this terminal being perforated to
receive a cotter pin 32 by means.of which
the bow is locked in place.
Instead of employing the snap fasteners
15 for securing the cover to the upturned flange
of the base, rivets 33 may be employed, be-
ing passed through the fabric of the cover
and through the perforations in the flange,
as clearly shown in Fig. 9.
20 Although I have illustrated and described
my invention in all its details of construc-
tion, it will of course be understood that I
do not wish, in any way, to be limited by
such details, as various minor changes, with-
25 in the scope of the appended claims, may be
made without in the slightest degree de-
parting from the spirit of my invention.
Having thus described the invention, what
is claimed as new is:
so 1. A cover for typewriters including a
base provided at its sides with upturned
Copies of this patent may be obtained for five centstongues having key-hole slots, a plurality of

2. A cover for typewriters including a
sheet metal base upstruck to provide a mar-
ginal channel in its lower face, a packing
strip seated in the channel- and extending 40
below the lower face of the base, and a cover
carried by the base.
3. A cover for typewriters including a
base formed from a single blank of sheet
metal bent to provide an upturned rear wall 45
having. forwardly directed wings with lat-
erally directed terminals forming rests and
also upturned to provide at the sides tongues
having key-hole slots, a plurality of bows
having inwardly directed balled terminals 50
engageable in the slots of the tongues, said
bows being .adapted to swing into engage-
