UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DANIEL W. BURGIN, OF GARNER, TEXAS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-THIRD TO j. W. WRIGHT,
OF GARNER, TEXAS.
LAMP-CHIlMNEY HOLDER.1,096,019.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 12, 1914.
Application filed September 8, 1913. Serial No. 788,688.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DANIEL W. BURGIN, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Gar-
ner, in the county of Parker and State of
5 Texas, have invented certain new and use-
ful Improvements in Lamp-Chimney Hold-
ers, of which the following is a specification,
reference being had therein to the accom-
panying drawing.
10 This invention relates to a lamp chimney
holder and has for its object the production
of a simple and efficient means for drawing
in upon the chimney engaging arms whereby
a small chimney may be accommodated
15 without danger of the chimney falling from
engagement with the arms.
Another object of this invention is the
production of a lamp chimney holder which
is provided with a screw adjusting means
20 for reducing the space within the chimney
retaining arms for allowing a small sized
chimney to be accommodated when desired.
With these and other objects in view this
invention consists of certain novel combina-
25 tions, constructions and arrangements of
parts as will be hereinafter fully described
and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1
is a perspective view of the lamp chimney
30 holder. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the
same. Fig. 3 is a section taken on the line
3-3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a section taken on
the line 4-4 of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a perspec-
tive view of a portion of the clamping band
35 and the standard used in connection there-
with. Fig. 6 is a side elevation of the screw
adjusting means, a portion of the same be-
ing shown in section.
Referring to the accompanying drawing
40 by numerals, 1 indicates the usual burner
having the chimney retaining arms 2. In
order to allow the arms to engage a small
sized chimney when desired, the arms are
provided with efficient means for drawing
45 upon the same so as to swing them inwardly
for engaging the chimney. Each arm 2 is
provided with a struck-out rib 3 adjacent
its upper end whereby the clamping band 4
is supported. This clamping band 4 passes
50 under the rib 3 so as to bear evenly upon
each of the arms 2. When this band 4 isdrawn together the arms 2 will be moved in-
wardly at their upper portions for engaging
a lamp chimney. One end of the clamping
band 4 is fixedly secured to the finger 5 of 55
the standard 6. This standard 6 is con-
nected to the finger 5 by means of an angu-
larly extending eye 7. The lower portion
of this standard is' provided with a later-
ally extending arm 8 terminating in a rivet 60
lip 0 which engages the base of the burner 1.
Since the standard 6 is fixedly secured to the
burner 1 and the clamping band 4 is fixedly
secured to this standard, in order to draw
the end portion of the clamping band to- 65
gether, it will be necessary for the opposite
end of the band 4 to be drawn toward the
standard 6. The free end of the clamping
band 4 is provided with a threaded rod 10,
this rod 10 being provided with a bifur- 70
cated end 11 wherethrough passes a pivot
member 12 for holding the threaded rod 10
with the free end of the clamping band 4.
This threaded rod 10 passes through the eye
7 of the standard 6 and carries. the nut 13 75
whereby by rotating the nut 13 upon the
threaded rod 10, the free end of the clamp-
ing band 4 will be drawn toward the stand-
ard 6 and will in this manner cause the
clamping band 4 to draw inwardly upon 80
the arms 2 for moving the upper end of the
arms inwardly.
From the foregoing description it will be
seen that a simple and efficient lamp chim-
ney holder has been produced which is 85
fixedly secured to the lamp burner thereby
preventing the same from becoming lost,
and which is provided with a simple means
for allowing the adjustment of .the same.
Having thus described the invention, 90
what is claimed as new, is
A lamp chimney holder comprising a
standard, said standard provided at its
lower portion with an arm terminating
in a rivet lip whereby said standard 95
will be held in firm engagement with
a burner, an angularly extending eye
formed upon the upper portion of said
standard terminating in an elongated fin-
ger, a clamping band fixedly secured at one 100
end of said finger, said clamping band
adapted to be positioned about a plurality
