inner end, each of said links being adapted
to engage an inner series of teeth of the said
rack. From an inspection of Fig. 1 of the
drawing it is evident that the oscillation of
the handle or lever 38 will result in oper-
ating the presser beam and that it will be
pulled downward upon downward pressure
of the outer end of the lever and that .upon
upward movement of the outer end of the
10 lever, the link 39 may be caused to move into
engagement. with the next succeeding tooth
of the rack so that by again moving the
outer end of the said lever downward, fur-
ther pull on the presser beam will be ef-
a fected for the purpose of compressing the
contents of the casing.
I claim-
In a press, a casing including hinged
doors, said doors having panels spaced
apart, a partition extending transversely of 20
the said casing, said partition having a
member projecting into the space between
the panels of the doors, means for holding
the doors closed, means for compressing ma-
terial in the casing, said partition having an 25
opening therein, a rod rotatable in said open-
ing, said rod having an angularly disposed
end for engaging the door for holding it in
closed position, and means for compressing
material in the casing. 30
