TABLE ATTACHmENT FOR B:EDS.
Specificahion of Letters Patent. Patented i1ay 3 _1914,
Application rled August 15, I13. Serial No. 785,529.TO all ? wom;,- ia aconcern2:
Be it kn1 rn thadt I, CLAP 'NcE ,V.. R-

ing at Faectra, in tie c'untv of Wichi La
Stto of Texas, have in-td certi new
and useful improvementss in Table Attach-
ientst r Bers TnCdo I do hereby declare t he
following to be a full, clear, and exact de-
* r1pn4on of the invention, such as will en-
10 able others skilled in the art to which it
a p1))erfains to make and use the same.
The present invention is directed to im-
pr]vements mi table attachments for beds,
and has for its ohject to so construct a de-
15 vice of this character that the same can be
easily and quickly attached to the bed, and
when in place thereon the same can ie ad-
justed for (iifferet use s. -
A further object of the invention is to
20 provide an attachment for beds which will
serve to support medicines and also an at-
tachment which can be used for supporting
a food tray, writing material, and will
serve as a book rest.
25 A still further object of the invention is
to provide an attachment of this nature so
constructed that the same can be adjusted so
as to be in a convenient position to a person
in the bed.:
30 With these and other objects in view, this
invention resides in the novel features of
construction, formation, combination and
arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more
fuly described, claimed and illustrated in
35 the accompanying drawing, in which:-
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the .device.
Fig. 2 is a top plan, view of the same. Fig.
3 is a sectional view oh line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a similar-view on line 4-4 of Fig.
40 1. Fig. 5 is a. side..elevation of a slightly
modified form of the invention.
deferring to the drawing, the numeral 1
designates a bed post, to which are connected
clamps 2, said clamps consisting of jaws 3,
45 one of said jaws terminating in bearings 4,
for supporting the rod 5.
Mounted upon the rod r is a sleeve 6,
the same being held in adjusted positions
upon said rod by the set screw s which is
50 provided with an operating handle 8, the
inner enll of said screw being adapted tobind against the rod 5 to hold 'said sleeve in
Ens adjusted positions.
An arm 9 is provided and has one end
pros ided with a sleeve 10; which engages the 55
rod 5, said sleeve being provided with a set
screw 11, the same being operable to bind
against the rod 5 so as to hold the arm 9
a ilst swinging movement whenl desired.
The other end of the arm 9 is provided 60
with a head 12 in which is formed a socket
13 for receiving the vertical extension 14
formed upon one end of the arm 15. A set
screw 16 is carried by the head 12 for en-
gaging the extension 14 so as to hold the 65
arm 15 against accidental swinging move- -
ment.
Slidably mounted upon the arm S a
sleeve 17, which carries a screw 1S, similar
to the scIew 7, said screw serving to hold the 70
sleeve 17 in adjusted positions upon the
arm 15.
Rotatabmy mounted on the sleeve 17 is a
casting 1', haying radiating therefrom see-
tional arms 19r the outer ends of which are 75
provided with loops 20 for engaging the
corners of the table 21, which is preferably
formed from glass, but it is of course under-
stood that any other .material may be sub-
stituted therefor. The opposite ends of so
the arms 19 are adjustable connected by
sleeves 19'.
In the modified form of the invention the
rod 5 extends beyond the uppermost clamp
2 so that the arm 9 can be readily adjusted 85
upon the extended end of the rod 5, the arm
being mounted in this manner only in cases
where the bed posts are unusuially short.
Pivotally connected to the lower end of
the rod 5 is a table 22; which is adapted to 90
support medicines so that the same will be
in convenient reach at all times.
From this construction it will be seen that
the arms 9 and 15 can be adjusted vertically
and swung so that. the table 21 will be in 95
convenient reach of the person in the bed.
What is claimed is:-
In a device of the class described, the com-
bination with a support, clamps connected .
to the support, sockets carried by.the clamps, 100
a rod having its ends supported in the sock-
ets, a sleeve adjustably mounted on the rod,
