a. casing contracted at the lower end into
discharge openings, a centralized exhaust
trunk rising from the lower end of the cas-
ing with its inlet above and open to the dis-
5 charge openings, a series of superposed de-
clining baffles exterior to and on opposite
sides of the air trunk and the latter being
provided with an equal number of freely
open air ports each in underlying relation
10 to the upper end of a respective baffle, and
other series of declining baffles on the oppo-
site inner walls of the casing in opposition
to and alternation with the first-named
baffles, and the casing being provided with
15 air ports equal in number to the second-
named series of baffles with each air port in-
dividual to a respective baffle in underlying
relation to the upper end thereof, the asso-
ciated series of baffles on opposite sides of
20 the air trunk discharging into the respective
discharge openings to which the air trunk is
common, and each of the second-named
series of air ports through the outer walls
of the casing being provided with a control-
25 lable means for regulating its effective area.
4. In a machine for the purpose described,
a suitable casing, a centrally located air
trunk therein extending from the top of the
casing to a point adjacent the bottom there-
30 of, said air trunk carrying on each side series
of baffles. declining from the air trunk
toward the corresponding wall of the casing
and said air trunk being provided with an
air port associated with each baffle and in
35 underriding relation thereto at the junction
of the baffle with the air trunk, other series
of declining baffles extending from corre-
sponding walls of the casing in alternation
with and in opposite direction to the first
0 named bafles, the casing walls being pro-
vided with air ports each in underriding re-
lation to the upper end of a correspondingbaffle where joining the casing wall, and in-
lets for stock on opposite sides of . the air
trunk and in line with the free edges of the 45
corresponding series of baffles, the casing
also being provided with an inverted V-
shaped deflector in underriding centralized
relation to the lower end of the air trunk.
5. In a machine for the purpose described, 5o
a. suitable casing, a centrally located air
trunk therein extending from the top of the
casing to a point adj acent the bottom there-
of, said air trunk carrying on each side a
series of baffles declining from the air trunk 55
toward the corresponding wall of the casing
and said air trunk being provided with an
air port associated with each baffle and in
underriding relation thereto at the junction
of the baffle with the air trunk, other series 60
of declining baffles extending from corre-
sponding walls of the casing in alternation
with and in opposite direction to the first
named baffles, the casing walls being pro-
vided with air ports each in underriding re- 65
lation to the upper end of a. corresponding
baffle where joining the casing wall, and in-
lets for stock on opposite sides of the air
trunk and in line with the free edges of the
corresponding series of baffes, the casing 70
also being provided with an inverted V-
shaped deflector in underriding centralized
relation to the lower end of the air trunk,
and each air port through the walls of the.
casing being provided with a regulating 75
valve for determining its effective area.
In testimony, that I claim the foregoing
as my own, I have hereto affixed my signa-
ture in the presence of two witnesses.
