UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SIMON H. PATTERSON, OF SANTO, TEXAS.
LAMP-BURNER.Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 4,1916
Application filed June 18, 1915. Serial No. 34,893.
To all wlionvit may concern:
Be it known that I, SIMoN H. PATTER-
SON, a citizen of the United States, residing
at Santo, in the county of Palo Binto and
5 State of Texas, have invented certain new
and useful Improvements in Lamp-Burners;
and I do hereby declare the following to be
a full, clear; and exact description of the
invention, such as will enable others, skilled
10 in the art to which it appertains to make
and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in
lamp burners and especially with reference
to the provision of spring pressed clamps
15 pivotally mounted on a burner and adapted
to engage opposite sides of the base of a
lamp chimney.and thereby securely hold the
I' mp chimney in place on the burner and yet
p rmitthe ready removal of the chimney.
20 The invention consists in the construction,
combination and arrangement of devices
hereinafter described and claimed.
In the 'accompanying drawings: Figure,
1 is an elevation of a lamp burner pro-
25 vided with chimney clamps constructed in
accordance with my invention, and showing
the clamps in engaged position in full lines
and in disengaged position .in dotted lines,
the base of the chimney being also indi-
30 cated in dotted lines. Fig. 2 is an inverted
plan of the burner with its clamps. Fig.
3 'is a detail perspective view of. one of the
clamps.
The burner 1 may be of the form here
35 shown or of any usual construction, the
dome being indicated at la, the gallery at
2, the neck at 3 and the wick tube at 4.
In accordance with my, invention I pro-
vide a pair of clamps 5 eich of which may
40 be of a single piece of wire.' Each clamp
comprises a shaft 6, an offset portion 7 at
the center of the shaft,'an operating arm
8 depending from the center of the offset,
and clamping arms 9 extending upwardly
45 from the ends-of the shaft, each clamping
arm being here shown as formed at its upper
end with an interned portion 10 provided
with a shoulder 11, to engage over the base
flange a of the lamp chimney b andan up-
50 wardly extending portion 12 connected to
the outer end of the shoulder 11 to engage
the chimney. Each operating arm 8 is here shown, as
U-shaped and as provided with a bridge
piece 13 having an opening'.14. The shafts 55
of the. clamps, are mounted in suitable bear-
ings 15 under the gallery, the shafts being
arranged ii' parallel relation and near op-
posite sides of the gallery and with their
offsets 7 extending 'outwardly. Rods .16 60
have their inner ends attached, to' the base
17 of. the burner' and' their outer ends ex-
tended through .the openings 14 of the
bridge pieces 13, and on each of said rods,
is a spring 18 the inner end of which bears 65
against the burner base and the outei- end
of which bears against the bridge piece.
The rods 16 are pivotally connected to the
burner base and the springs serve -to move
.the arms 8 of -'the clamps outwardly and 70
hence turn the shafts 6 so 'as to cause the
clamping, arms 9 to bear firmly against and
over the chimney base flange a and thereby
securely lock the chimney on the burner.
By pressing the arms 8 towar each other, 75
against the' tension of the spring 18 as
indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 1 the
clamping arms 9 may be disengaged from
the base flange of the chimney and hence
permit the chimney to be removed from the 80
burner.
.Having thus described my invention, I
claim:
A lamp burner having a pair of chimney
engaging clamps, arranged at opposite 85
sides,.each clamp comprising .a shaft pivot-
ally mounted on the burner, having an out-
standing offset portion with a depending
operating arm, and also having upstanding
chimney engaging clamping arms, rods ex- 90
tending from the base of the burner and
slidably engaged with the operating arms of
the clamps and springs on said rods and
pressing outwardly against the operating
arms of the clamps and serving to normally 95
hold the clamps in engaged position.
In testimony whereof I afix' my signa-
ture in presence of two witnesses.
