Pioneer Day wasn’t just for the adults, as is
Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints.
Pioneer Day
Celebrated
One hundred and fifty-four
years after a group of people left
the boundaries of the United
States for the purpose of religious
freedom, members of the Church
of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints
celebrate in chapels across
America and throughout the
world the feat of the pioneers who
reached a barren valley in the
midst of the Rocky Mountains on
July 27, 1847.
Such was the celebration on
July 24 at the Cleveland Ward of
said church.
Dressing in 19th Century cloth-
ing, playing games of that time
period and eating foods that were
common of that day, members
celebrated what is know today as
Pioneer Day.
“We honor the men and women
who endured great hardships for
their faith,” said Pat Roberts, Pub-
lic Relations Specialist for the
Cleveland Ward. “Were it not for
their sacrafices and sufferings,
The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latterday Saints would not be
what it is today, nor would that
valley, Salt Lake Valley, have
blossomed like a rose.”
Pioneer day is a way for present
day members to appreciate those
members of the past, “said Rob-
erts. “Their example reaches
across time and strengthens us
today.”

GOTCHA!!! Larry Allen
was recently surprised with
a 48th birthday dinner... little
did he know he was going to
have to sweep his way through
Joe’s Crab Shack, wearing a
colorful hat that was quite a hit!
(He also wasn’t expecting any-
one from Cleveland to be there,
let alone anyone from the Pa-
perboy!) Happy birthday,
Larry!
