North Creek Ranch north of
Comfort is seeding two fields to
permanent grasses. They are
using King Ranch bluestem and
sideoats grama grasses, feed-
ing is being done with the Ken-
dall County Soil Conservation
District grass drill. This drill
can handle this trashy seed and
plant it from 0 to one half inch
deep which is what these grass-
es need. Both of the fields being
planted consist mainly of class
IV and VII land, due to steep-
ness of slope and shallow depth.
Therefore, both Mr. Bailey and
Johnston feel those fields will
be more profitable in permanent
grasses than in cultivation.

Adolph Stieler of 9 miles
north of Comfort has recently
completed three new field ter-
races and a diversion terrace in
one field. He also reworked the
old terraces in two other fields.

’Peter Ingenhuett of Comfort
is having some field terraces
built on his ranch on the Gilles-
pie-Kendall District line north
of Comfort. The work is being
done by the Guadalupe-Bianco
River Authority Motor Grader
with technical assistance furn-
ished by personnel of the Boer-
ne Work Unite of the Soil Con-
servation Service.

Floyd Hodges, located north
of Boerne, took all stock off one
pasture in late August and plan
ned to keep them out until De-
cember at least. He realizes his
grasses need a chance and his
stocks needs a better feed sup-
ply. Also he realizes the best way
to get more and better grasses
is to give ia a complete rest,
