WANT TO GO TO EUROPE?
Want to go to Europe? The
Army will now guarantee a free
trip for those eligible to enlist
or reenlist under the new unit
rotation plan called “Operation
Gyroscope,” according to SFC
Martell W. Seymour of the U. S.
Army Recruiting Station 630 S.
Main, San Antonio.
Individuals enlisting under
this program will be assigned to
the 10th Infantry Division at
Fort Riley, Kansas. This divis-
ion is scheduled to replace the
1st Infantry Division in Europe
next summer.
To be eligible for this Euro-
pean tour, an applicant must
enlist or reenlist in the Army
for three or more year in grades
E-l through E-3. Persons must
be enlisted by Jan. 5th for this
assignment. The quota for this
area is 22. All personnel with-
out prior service are enlisted in
grade E-l.
The Army is now accepting
enlistments for this European
tour at all U. S. Recruiting Sta-
tions in this area.
Sfc. Martell W. Seymour stat-
ed, “This is an excellent oppor-'
tunity to take advantage of
Army service by traveling in in-
teresting European countries.”
Persons interested in this un-
usual opportunity are urged to
contact the nearest U. S. Army
Recruiting Station or Sfc. Sey-
mour at Boerne Post office each
Monday.
SUPERINTENDENT
REPORTS
Tlie Boerne School will close
on Friday, December 17th, for
the Christmas Holidays and will
not resume classes until Mon-
day, January 3rd.
Individual rooms will have
Christmas trees and program's.
Gifts will be exchanged with
refreshments served.
The high school will have a
program in the Auditorium
where the pupils will also ex-
change gifts. A movie depictly
“The Meaning of Christmas”
will be shown.
Mr. Liesman announces that
the Northeast Basket Ball teams
both the boys and girls will vis-
it Boerne on Tuesday night. AH
school patrons are invited to
come and see the games between
the teams.
The school faculty and child-
ren extend their condolences to
Mrs. Ame Richardson in the re-
cent passing of her mother.
Supt. Liesman has several
Greyhound Annuals of 53-54
which he would like to dispose
of. Anyone wishing to buy one
can do so by contacting Mr.
Liesman, the price is $3.00.
THE BOERNE STAR
BALCONES GRANGE
Balcones Grange held regu-
lar meeting, Dec. 8th. Master
Herbert Voges presiding. Visi-
tors for evening were Mr. and
Mrs. Morris and Mr. and Mrs.
Gregory from Boerne Grange.
All committees reported. Mr. and
Mrs. W. E. Adam were reinstat-
ed and one application for mem-
bership was read. It was voted
to send $5 to Boysville for
Christmas. The Grange will spon
sor a Christmas party on Dec.
23rd for the community. Please
come out and bring your neigh-
bors. Grange members please
bring cookies for refreshments.
Literary Christmas program
was enjoyed. Lovely refresh-
ments were served by Mr. and
Mrs. Dwight Smith.

A meeting of the Kendall
County Red Cross Chapter was
held on Thursday, December 9,
at Land O’ Hills Lodge.
The budget for the coming
year was read.
A certificate of appreciation
was awarded Col. M. H. Haw-
kins for his outstanding work
and in recognition of service
faithfully performed during the
past several years within the
local Chapter.
Mrs. J. A. Huff, Junior Red
Cross Chairman displayed book-
lets made by the schood child-
ren thru the cooperation of the
teachers, which are to be sent
to children in foreign countries.
Mrs. Huff stressed that Junior
Red Cross is the only organiza-
tion in which children can serve
and grow to realize their future
responsibilty as ehlpful citizens.
250 Xmas cards were also
made by the Junior Red Cross,
members for the patients at
Legion. An afghan has also been
completed to be given to a con-
valescent patient.
