OUTLOOK FOR LIVESTOCK
FEEDS AND HAYS
FOR 1955
College Station, Dec. 13.—
Livestock feeds and hays in
1955 are expected to cost Tex-
as farmers about the same as
this year.
Prices of high protein feeds
will probably hold steady and
the cost of cottonseed meal
probably will rist this winter
and continue high into 1955, pre-
dicts John G. McHaney, exten-
son agricultural economist. A
rather marked difference in
prices of individual feed is on
the ’55 horizon.
By individual feeds the econ-
omist sees it this way: Ship-
ments of hay to Texas will con-
tinue for the duration of the
drouth. Hay supplies for the na-
tion as a whole are above last
year. But supplies in the South-
west are very short.
Corn>—Tlie ’54 corn crop does
not meet total requirement and
later in the marketing year,
prices will rise above those of a
year earlier.
Sorghum grain. The 8,900,000
acre harvest of grain sorghums
this year in the U.S. was the
third largest in history. With a
normal growing season in ’55
prices probably will not im-
prove.
Oats and barley.—Ot supplies
are near record levels. Prices for
this commodity and for barley
are expected to average lower
than normal in relation to the
price of corn. High production
again this year paves the way
to a depressed market for oats
next year.

LIBRARY SURVEY
Austin, Dec. 13. — The most
comprehensive Texas library sur
vey ever attempted will be con-
ducted by the University of
Texas Graduate School of Li-
brary Science and the Texas Re-
search League.
Two research teams will co-
ordinate their efforts as the
League makes an over-all survey
of Texas libraries and library
services, and the School.makes
a study of library personnel and
training agencies.
The University’s project con-
cerns “the most important sin-
gle element in library service—
the people who give it,“ Robert
R. Douglass, Graduate School of
Library Scient director, points
out. The Texas Library Asso-
ciation is supporting the work
with a $2,500 grant, and the
University has awarded a re-
search leave to Dr. Esther Stall-
mann, library science professor,
who will devote next semester
to the study.
Collection of data will begin
in January with compilation of
a complete list of Texas libra-
ries.

NOTICE
The Holiday Season is with
us again and with it comes the
usual flood of beggars, pan-
handlers, salesmen of magazines
post cards, etc. While any worth
while project is worthy of our
consideration, we do not have to
contribufe to strangers to have
our dollars spread holiday cheer,
as we have representatives of all
bon-fide organization in our city
whom we can easily contact. Be
extremely wary of any high-
powered salesmanship in any
line, whether it be the sale of
magazines or a termite-control
outfit. In cases where doubt as
to the standing of any one who
might colicit you for any con-
tributions or attempt to sell any
thing, please call me and I will
be glad to investigate.
In any case, drive carefully so
that you may enjoy the holi-
