Strathman-Zidlicky
Mr and Mr* A W Strath
man announce the engagment
.ind approaching marriage of
their daughter Mary, to
Donald It Zidlickj not: of Mr
.md Mr* Hubert F Zidlicky of
Corpus Oiniti
The couple will be married
Aug 17 in Corpus Chnsti
Cathedral
Her fiance was graduated
from Lemoore High School in
Mrs.,
Miss
or Ms.
by jo cushion
A slight deviation in the
culumn this week
Girls graduate too you know
So this is about the "Miss.
Mrs . Ms graduate” and the
Mr Graduate”.
It is supposed that all
graduation ceremonies should
have something extra happen
to set them apart from all
others before and those to
lollow
The Class of I97t had just
that liappen on Thursday May
30 Since 1961. graduation
exercises have been held in the
high school athletic stadium,
but this year's class had the
dubious distinction of being the
first one in 23 years to be
"rained in”.
All week had been absolutely
lovely summer days Come
Thursday morning and the sky
began to frown Panic set in at
school and in graduate's
home* The repeated phrase
was probably, “why today,
why me’"
With the exercise to begin at
R p m and relatives, here from
all over, crowding homes
wishing in see a favorite senior
launched forward into the
world: with parents or
relatives holding only four
tickets for admittance to the
auditorium in rase nf rain, it
came at 7 p m and il got
worse It hghtninged. thun-
dered and it poured
Parents, relatives, friends
and interested parties -- in-
cluding graduates -- got
sligntly wet arriving for the
ceremonies, of course held in
the auditorium
Only ticket holders were
admitted Those without
tickets stood in doorways or in
the milling area and even some
outside the school doors But
(he auditorium holds only a
little over 1.000 and when the
seats were gone no one else
could tie admitted Some came,
observed the crowd waiting
and left Many people were
disappointed
The seniors, all 207 of them,
marched in to the processional
by the Gregory Portland Band,
listened to speeches by
valedictorian. Debby Butler,
salutalorian, Patti Beilis;
school board member. J E
Bradford and superintendent,
W C Andrews; prayers by Sue
Hutchins and Peggy Parish;
cheered Alton Ezell when he
helped move the flowers and
were certified by Mr T M
McDonald, principal
They received their diplomas
from Leonel Kios and ExelJ;
cheered those who made it with
hardly any sweat and those
who barely made it They were
blinded by flash bulbs popping
on cameras of proud parents
Then they marched out to
return their caps and gowns to
teachers waiting in the
cafeteria, congratulated each
other, some even cried
This writer wag mildly
shocked, to say the least, to see
the attire some of the
graduates nad on beneath their
gowns, shorts, halters, beach
attire Not what one would
believe was suitable
graduation dress It seems to
me it was an attempt to show
their disdain for the dress code
they have, more or less, been
governed by all year
Compared to some schools,
G-P has a very liberal dress
code and with others a very
strict one I believe, all in all.
our dress code is a very lair
one Most of the seniors were
most suitably dressed
Congratulations seniors,
your life can only be whal you
