Roio murder trial to be moved
Location still unknown,
bond reduction denied
Following two mistrials in the murder trial of Jorge Luis Rojo in
106th District Court at the Gaines County Courthouse, District Judge
George Hansard has granted a change of venue in the case to an as-
yet undisclosed location.
However, Judge Hansard did not grant the bail reduction for Rojo
as requested by defense attorney Chuck Lanehart.
Following the second mistrial in the case last Monday, Lanehart
had requested a change of venue and the bond reduction, both for the
second time.
The first time, Judge Hansard had denied both requests, but
Monday, he made a decision to move the trial to a "nearby location,"
depending on dockets in neighboring courts.
But he refused to reduce the bond, so Rojo will remain in Gaines
County Jail in lieu of $25Q,000 bond.
Rojo is accused of murder in the September, 1994 stabbing death
of his estranged wife, Maria.
