It's all over but the shouting
Smton came, they put up a stilt fight, but they were no
match tor the Big Red Machine
Now. the Wildcats of G P have to find a way to keep from
getting complacent while they go through the motiohs of
polishing off Tuloao-Midway and Taft
No doubt. I heir eyes will be drifting south and north
watching the battles in the districts that will produce a bi
district opponent and a regional battle The coaches
will devise all sorts of pep talks to keep their charges Hike
remember Aransas Past) fit. but it won't be easy
The Big Red Machine will go to Tuloso-Midway this
Friday for a game with the faltering Warriors Things looked
good for Bill Rhyne and his team at the start of the season
but as the season has progressed they have come unglued
and now have dropped three district games No doubt, they
have the makings of a good club but this evidently wasn't the
year for T M to put it all together
Coach Ray Akins is going to have to lecture his boys in
not being too confident. but the Cats should be able to take the
Warriors by a substantial margin - -say three or more TDs
Sinton will take their bruised ego to Aransas Pass this
week The Panthers are winless this season and are due to
remain in this unhappy state the remainder of the year
Calallen and Bishop, two of the unpredictable teams in
the district meet in Bishop Both have strong teams, but both
have had their problems The Badgers have dropped three
games while the rebuilding Wildcats have lost four This
should be one of the most evenly matched games of the week
with just a slight edge going to the Badgers—by a TD
Taft will play host to the Flour Bluff Hornets The
Hounds have completely baffled us this year They have won
when we have forcast defeat and they have lost when we have
gone along with them The Hounds just haven't had the depth
to really move this year and with a sigh we see them on the
short side of the Hornets by a TD
That leaves West Oso and the Rock port Pirates, playing
in Bear Stadium The Bears have, in our opinion, some of the
best individual backs in this area and when they are at their
best they are uncatchable I don't think the Rockport boys
will be able to nail them—The Bears by several
Hit four out of five last week There should be one week
with a perfect mark available — maybe this is it
‘B’ Team Ties
Sinton Pirates
The Stnton Pirates came
roaring nut last Thursday to
return the opening kickoff
against the G P "B" team to
take a 7-0 lead, but the Cats
bounced back In the same
quarter to mount a 40-yard
drive in 0 plays, that even the
score when John Ahlers kicked
the extra point
The Cats got their scoring
chance on their second
possession of the game, taking
over the ball near mid-field
Harold Sosebee was the
workhorse in the drive, with
assists from Jimmy Albrecht
and Jake Rios The score came
when Quarterback Rios passed
to Billy Beecher for 13 yards
and the score
In the second quarter. G-P
drove to the Sinton 17-yard line
only to have one of their passes
intercepted Sinton came back
in the fourth quarter and
penetrated to the Cat seven
yard line but here the Wildcat
defensive line stiffened and
held
The punting of Tommy
Nelson was a big factor in
keeping the Cats nut of trouble
He booted the ball 4 times for
an average of 33 5 yards
Sosebee led in the rushing
department with 99 yards in 25
attempts Jimmy Albrecht got
48 yards in 10 tries and Bryan
Gobel made 28 yards in four
times
Defensively, Don l.indquist
led with 13 tackles while Wade
Rackley got eight, Mario
Montemayor seven. Jeff
Bishop six and Willie Gomez
six
G P led in first down 13 to 7
and the penetrations were lied
at two all
This week, the "B" team
meets Tuloso here Thursday at
7pm The Warriors have lost
one game, that being to Sinton
