well coached, well disciplined
organization that worked
toward winning
But even in great team
effort* the stars shine through
and certainly Kusty Dickson,
Alan Bishop and Jim West
deserve top billing along with
Huger Crosswhite These boys
will delight the heart of some
college coach
Both teams were keyed up
for the game and it was evident
in the play during the early
part of the game Turnovers by
both teams canceled each
other and the determined effort
of the Sinton line in two early
goal line stands put anxiety
into the hearts of G-P fans
Sinton almost broke the game
wide open on the opening
kickoff when Bob Hutchins
took the ball near his own goal
line and twisted his way for
what looked like a shot at the
goal until Sam Tijerina nailed
him on the Cat 37 yard line On
third down, the Pirates at
tempted to establish their
passing game but the entire G
P line crashed through and
tossed Hutchins for a 24-yard
logs This was a sign of things
to come
A fumble cut G-P's first
drive, but in short order the Cat
defense turned the ball back to
Dickson and crew Dickson cut
loose with a 28-yard run off of a
busted pass, but when the drive
bogged down on the Pirate 14-
yard line Jeff Pyatte was
called on to boot a field goal
and (■ P look a shaky 3-0 lead
l.uis Santos recovered a
Pirate fumble on the Sinton 25-
yard line on the next play
Dickson drilled a perfect pass
to Roger Crosswhite for 19
yards and a first down on the
Pirate six-yard line, but then
things got really rough West
and Bishop each battered at
the Pirate defensive wall but
both were turned back and the
ball went over the the Pirates
on the one yard line
Again, a Dickson to
Crosswhile pass for 23 yards
put G-P into excellent field
position, but again the Pirates
manned the defenses and the
ball went over on the Pirate 15-
yard line
Opening from the Sinton 44
yard line, this time the Big Ked
Machine was not to be denied
Hem- Pena helped Dickson.
West and Bishop grind up the
field and finally Bishop broke
over left guard through a good
hole to go the last four yards
and finally put G P on the
scoreboard with a TD Pyatte
converted and G-P took a HM1
lead into the dressing room at
halftime
G P got the ball four times in
the second half scored on two
possessions, fumbled once and
had one pass intercepted, but
the defense kept the Pirates
bottled up most of the time
Sinton made two first downs
on the ground and completed
their only pass of the game in
the last play of the game
The Cats pul the ball into
play in the second half from
their 30-yard line, and despite
20 yards in penalties, they
moved steadily down the field
with a mixed passing and
running power game Dickson
hit Crosswhite with one pass
and Jim West with one to move
for a first down cm the Pirate
10-yard line From the four
yard line, Dickson skipped
around left end for the score
and Pyatte converted 17-0
Sinton picked up one first
down on a good run by Steve
Chafin before they were forced
to punt Once again, the Cat
offense rolled with passes from
Dickson to Bobby Prather
and Crosswhite featuring the
drive A fumble, deep in Pirate
territory, snuffed out the drive
and Sinton took over on their
own four-yard line Chafin
again provided the punch to get
the Pirates one first down but a
fumble (recovered by Luis
Santos) killed their hopes and
put G-P back in business
Dickson went deep with a pass
on the second play, only to have
it picked off by Ktadio Castillo
in the end zone Sinton took
over on the 20 but were unable
to move and got off a 50-yard
punt to shove G-P deep into
their own territory
With sheer power on the
ground. Bishop. West.
Alexander and Pena crunched
down the field Bishop broke
free with a beautiful 28-yard
run. carrying Pirates along
with him, to set up a first down
on the 14-yard line
Dickson broke through to set
up a first down on the Pirate
three yard line and was shaken
up on the play Coby Osborne
took over, and after a face
mask penalty moved the hall to
the l'v yard line, Bishop bulled
his way over for the score
Pyatte converted and the final
score of 24-0 went on the board

a scoreless defense and a

Rusty Dickson was great

in Sinton's game plan Sinton
knew that they had to move the
ball through the air if they
were to get any yardage on the
ground, and yet time and time
again the terrific rush of the
defensive team set Bob Hut
chins bark on his heels The
Pirates were never able to get
their passing game going
mainly because the Wildcat
line played as much in the
Pirate backfield as the Sinton
hacks

After crushing Sinton last
week, some Cats might have
dreamed of taking things easy
this week, but it has been a
week of hard work with the
coaches pointing out that the
Warriors are a dangerous
team
Great things were predicted
for the Warriors this year, but
they have fallen into hard
times along the rocky road
since Sept 1 and their football
fortunes have tumbled quite a
bit Right now ttjgtr dtatflci
record is 4-3 with defeats at the
hands of Sinton >0-44). West
Oso (15-47) and Bishop (9-12)
They hold victories over Rock-
port 10-0). Aransas Pass (35
12). Flour Bluff (29-6) and Taft
<34-01
The Warriors have lots of
talent, and a hard-driving
coach in Bill Rhyne, who took
over T M and moved it from a
losing school to a winning
team
Their learn is run by Gary
Nesloney at quarterback Both
he and Joe Bentley halfback,
have been sidelined with in
juries part of the year The
Warriors boast one of the
fastest backs in the conference
in Glenn Dittlinger who turns
in the lOCFyard dash in about
"9 8 and is capable of going all
(he way once he is sprung into
the open Dittliner has also
been plagued with a bad ankle
The Warriors have brought
up a freshman from the ranks
backfield and we know that
they like to run power off of the
"I" formation, and naturally
we have prepared our boys to
meet everything that our
scouts have brought back "
The Warriors like to alter
nate their defensive patterns
and the Wildcat coaches have
prepared them to meet
everything that they have used
this year “They use a seven-
man line with ends split just a
bit back, they use a stacked
defense and they use a
pyramid plus several others,"
Akins said
The Cats have not suffered
any additional major injuries
in the past few days and should
be close to top physical form
for the game Several of the
boys have bruises, but no one is
on the permanently disabled
list at the present time
in the past four games. Joel
Rhyne who is the coach's son,
