Radio Station
Mrs. Edna Richter and Mrs.
Pat Ahlgren recently took their
Campfire (roup on tour of KEYS
radio station.
Johnny Marks, announcer and
disk jockey, guided the tour.
They saw how a commercial
was made and made a record-
ing of the group singing a song.
They visited the news room
and mot the news casters. Each
girl saw the teletype and re-
ceived some of the news.
They visited the control room
and watched the “on the air"
broadcast. They requested a
song which was played for them.
Girls on the tour were Diane
Ahlgren, Kathleen Reeves,
Martha Garica, Jeannie Klm-
per, Jo Ann Cristan, Cherrie
Richter, Debbie Wlcke, Kathy
Richter, Josie Hinojosa, and

have been meeting the past
month under the leadership of
Mrs Dortha Crum and Mrs

On Oct 3, the girls chose the
name Adventure for Ihetr
Camp Fire group
At the Oct 10 meeting they
made sit-up-ons lo be used at
their meetings and elected
officers They attended a song
work shop at East Cliff
Elementary Ocl 17 and
Wednesday the Adventurers
hiked to the Dairy Queen in
Gregory They are planning a
cook <>ut on Halloween night

Organizational Meeting
Mrs Grover's Horizon Club
held an organizational meeting
Sunday afternoon at 110
Hawthorne
Twelve girls will register
with the group this year with
six of (hem beginning work on
the Wohelo Medallion
Various projects for the year
such as helping needy families
al Christmas, giving service
hours lo the Community Center
and working with younger
Camp Eire groups were
discussed The girls also
discussed their summer trip to
New Braunfels where they
stayed three days and two
nights
Plans were made for a hake
sale lo be- held Friday, Oct 26,
at I p m . at H E B Center
Money raised al this sale will
be used for their Christmas
project Cakes sold will be
decorated in a Halloween
theme so they may he donated
to Ihe East Cliff Carnival
This meeting was followed
wilh refreshments of chocolate
fondue and a poster party by
the group lo begin homecoming
activities

returned Sunday, Oct 21. from
a seven -day Caribbean Cruise
on Ihe ship, M-S Song of Nor
way
Their departure was from
Miami. Kla They visited
Nassau in the Bahamas. San
Juan in Puerto Rico and SI
Thomas in the Virgin Islands
Mrs Ernest slated lhal "SI
Thomas was a shoppers
paradise' Just being aboard
the ship was a vacation within
itself - you would never know
there was a lood shortage!"
There was entertainment
every night from l,as Vegas,
movies, swimming pools,
tournament! in all sports, and
just fun and relaxation
The Ernests were ac-
companied by Mr and Mrs
Joe Hastings of Dallas and Mr
and Mrs Homer Davis of
Houston, formerly of Corpus
Christi
There was a bit of ex
citemenl over “Gilda " but the
captain slowed Ihe ship's speed
considerably in order to stay
out of fhe path of the storm'
Also, Ihe ship spotted an old
sailboat out at sea and quickly
went to Ihe rescue of 18 people
escaping from Haiti They had
been without food and water
for two days so there was a
cheering crowd of passengers
when they brought them
aboard Ihe ship
The ship had 735 passengers
aboard along with a crew of
350
One of fhe highlights of Ihe
ErnesC trip was the visit with
their son. David, who is now
stationed in Key West. Fla .
whore he is attending a sub
marine school. He met his
parents in Miami and spent the
afternoon wilh them aboard
Ihe ship before sailing time'
To sum it up, Ihe Ernests
decided lhal was the most
vacation squeezed into one
week lhal anyone could ever
lake!

Plans For Mass
The Christ’s Ambassadors,
youth group from Kirst
Assembly of God, will have a
work day Friday, Oct. 26
Teenagers in this group will
work for anyone who needs
help wilh housework, yard
work, babysitting, petsiiting,
sewing or crocheting, driving,
and a number of other jobs

missions
