Letter To The Editor
Before the Little League
season had officially opened
we had already appreciated
the work accomplished by our
predecessors in the laidies
Auxiliary As first and second
vice presidents, ours was the
responsibility of the stocking
and smooth operation of
concession stands at the
baseball parks The point of
this letter is to give credit
where credit is due We were
lucky to have the utmost
cooperation of other officers
and especially our league
representatives These officers
and league representatives
need not have their name*
mentioned as they know who
they are They and the Little
league board of directors did
an outstanding job with raffle
ticket sales Because of all
their hard work, our Major and
Senior league All Stars will be
wearing brand new uniforms
during tournament play.
Thanks a thousand times over
We would also like to thank
all the parents and Portland
businessmen who played a
great part in "behind the
scenes action that is always
necessary in an operation such
as Little League Many items
were donated and time was
spent out of interest and good
will Business transactions
between Little league and
Portland businessmen were
not just transacted but taken
care of with generosity and a
smile
Parents of Portland, your
kids are in good hands We
have been fortunate to have
great managers, umpires and
officers These people give
countless hours of their own
time for your children The
fruits of all this labor takes
place in just two weeks, when
the Major ano Senior League
All Stars play in tournament
competition Come out and
enjoy the fun
Sincerely.

Virginia Holliday
Several times I have walked
(nL Mini* Stop No 2 in Por
tland for a purchase On the
check-out counter or in a stand
heside the check out counter
are magazines with pictures of
partially nude women Many
children buy items at this
counter
On July 2. 1973. I called Mr
Smith in Corpus Christi (he
refused to give me his first
name), the manager of the
Minit Stop stores I asked him
if these magazines could be
placed UNDEK the counter He
said NO! I asked why He
staled that he would not allow
the public to dictate to him I
asked if it made no difference
to him that small children
could see these pictures He
said NO!
Does this upset anyone other
than myself’ Let's do
something about this smut in
our area

To The Board Members and
Officials of G P Little
la-ague
I wonder if some of you good
people are having second
thoughts about letting the
players select the "All Star"
ball team for the past year
This turned out to be a
popularity contest and not a
selection of the best players
It also seems the boys in
Gregory that played well, were
forgotten in the contest,
especially, the pitcher, with the
second best record for pit-
ching. in the league
Officials, how about giving
some thought to this before
your fall meeting’

TO ALL MEMBERS OF
SAN PATRICIO ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE, INC.
The Cooperative's policy of making cash contributions to members who install
electric water heaters, electric ranges, electric dryers and electric heating will be
discontinued on July 15, 1973. This program has been under consideration and
evaluation by your board of directors and management for several months and final
action to discontinue this program was authorized at the regular board of directors'
meeting held June 13, 1973.
In view of the oontinued rapid increases in costs of wholesale power, materials,
fuels, taxes and equipment, your board of directors and management are doing every-
thing possible to keep this rate of increase to a minimum.
All indications are that materials costs will continue to increase substantially in
the foreseeable future. We are experiencing difficulty in securing many items already
and when they are available, the prices are increasing almost daily. We have already
placed orders for poles for delivery in 1974. Crossarms ore being quoted at seven to
eight months delivery, transformers twenty to thirty-six weeks delivery and conductors
from three to nine months delivery. These are but a few of our problems not to mention
the fuel shortage and its effect on our wholesale power oosts.
We encourage you to conserve electricity wherever possibl e. The fuel crisis has
developed into a real problem for all of us in the generation of electric power. Some
suggestions are - cut off all lights when not in use, set the thermostat on your air
conditioner up a few degrees, use your washer and dryer only when you hove a full load.
