Keith Edward Salmon. 18. a
resident of Portland, was found
hanged Tuesday in his Sinton
City Jail
A jailer found his body at

Salmon had apparently tied
the legs of a pair of trousers
together over a shower stall.
A ruling in the death is ex-
pected to be forthcoming from
Justice of the Peace Tom
Pullin of Taft
A 1972 graduate of Carroll
High School at Corpus Christi,
Salmon was a native of Lyn-
wood, Calif
Funeral services were

Funeral Chapel at Sinton with
burial in the San Patricio

Municipal
Court Moves
To City Hall
Municipal court is now being
held in the council chambers at
city hall, according to Police
Chief Homer J Baze Jr
The court now meets at 5 30
p m Monday, Wednesday and
Friday, he said
Primary reason for the
move, Baze explained, is to
separate the judicial process
from the law enforcement
agency The court formerly
was held in the police station
Those who do not wish to
contest charges can pay fines
at the police station
Members of the Greogory-
Portland Boosters Club would

Stolen Property
Is Recovered
Property has been recovered
which was taken in two
burglaries here earlier last
month, according to Portland
police
The same person is allegedly
responsible for both
burglaries, one on Sabine and
one on Denver.
The Corpus Christi Police
Department has the person in
custody for a similar charge in
that city

County Approves Pay Raises
The Commissioners Court
met Thursday afternoon,
January 25. to hold a public
hearirig on pay raises and open
bids
A 5*2 percent pay raise for
all elected county officials,
except the Commissioners and
County Judge, was approved
In addition, the Commissioners
decided that they would not use
county cars or courtesy cars
for the remainder of the year
Instead they will take a
straight $200 per month travel
allowance in an effort to reduce
'•ounty expenditures
The Court also approved a
resolution to be sent to the Corp
of Engineers. Cong John
Young Sen Lloyd Benson and
Sen John Tower, urging action
on the Chiltipin Creek Project
The resolution pointed out that
Sinton has been the victim of
severe flooding in the past, that
the county has been working to
alleviate the problem by
constructing drainage ditches
that empty into the creek and
that action by the Corp is
needed to prevent more severe
flooding in the future The Corp
has had the project under study
for many years
The court also approved the
1973 Amended Budget and 1973
Revenue Sharing Budget Half
of the revenue sharing funds
will go into the county general
fund with the remaining half
divided equally among the four
precincts.
In other action, the court
approved the employment of
the first County Librarian
Mrs, Bernice Abrego of
Columbus. Missouri, was hired
at a salary of $10,000 per year
to supervise and help libraries
located in the county Mrs
Abrego. who will assume her
duties February 12, will travel
between the seven libraries in
the county to help them
upgrade their services. Her

Show Saturday Night
"It is shaping into a fantastic

This is the opinion of Drama
Director Charlotte Barrier and
Choir Directors Melva Sebesta
and Xavier Barrera of the
Benefit Performance to be
presented at 8:11 pm
Saturday, Feb. 3. at the high
school auditorium by the
Gregory-Portland High School
Choir.
Purpose of the show is to
earn money to defray expenses
for the choir's trip in March to
the Music Educators National
Conference at Wichita, Kan.,
before which they have been
invited to perform It is the
only Texas high school choir to
be afforded this honor
A few tickets are still
available for the benefit show
and may be purchased at the
box office at 7pm Saturday
The Choraleirs and Chord-
smen have met their minimum
goal of $2,600 in ticket
donations This amount is for
the bus transportation for the
group
