daughter, Sherry Lee, to
Charles Dale Barnes, junior,
son of Mr. and Mrs. C. D.
Barnes of Houston.
The wedding will be
Saturday, January 8, 1972 in
the First Presbyterian Church
of Portland.
Both are seniors of Texas A &
I University. The bride elect
will receive a Bachelor of
Music, and Mr. Barnes, a
member of Kappa Sigma
fraternity, will receive a
Bachelor in Business Ad-
ministration this May.
Zeta Psi Chapter
Hold Girls Social
Zeta Psi Chapter of Epsilon
Sigma Alpha held a girls social
Monday, November 15, in the
home of Pat Hamblin.
Marilyn Basham and Helen
James presented a program on
Segregation and Education and
a group discussion followed.
After the program and a
short business meeting the
group played Crazy Bridge and
refreshments were served.
Linda Comeaux won high in
Crazy Bridge and Pat Reeves
won the door prize.
Members attending were

New Club Officers
The Portland Newcomers
Club held its regular monthly
meeting at the home of Mrs
Paul Kinstley The theme was
a salad lunceon with everyone
bringing their choice of a
salad.
Guest for the luncheon were
Janette Allison, Jo Ann Hardin,
Kathy Thorp, Marie
Strickland, and Mrs. Johnson
from Oklahoma City.
During the meeting the
nominating committee con-
sisting of Mrs. Craig Keith,
Mrs. Ken Komfuher, Mrs. Paul
Kyler, Mrs Joe Jewel, Mrs
Fred Morgan, Mrs. Jack Oates
and Mrs. Richard Frost,
presented the slate of new club
officers for 1972 The slate was
accepted and passed as
presented with the new officers
being Mrs. William Pipes,
president; Mrs. Gerald Cross,
vice-president; Mrs. Leon
Thurman, secretary, and Mrs
Craig Keith, treasurer
The December, 1971,
meeting will be held on
December 9, at the home of
Mrs. Fred Morgan. It will be a
Christmas sherry party and
anyone wishing to join the club
for the party or as a member
may call 643-3139 for reser-
vations.

Chatwork Club To
Beautify City Park
The Chatwork Club held its
regular monthly meeting
Wednesday morning,
November 17, at 9:30 in the
home of Mrs A1 Baxley. Frank
Wilson, president conducted a
short business meeting in
which the members discussed
what might be planted at the
city park. Since one of the main
projects for the year is city
beautification The president
will investigate costs and
present them to the club at the
December meeting. A
suggestion was made that
Arbor Day in January be used
as planting time.
Highlight of the meeting was
a very informative and
humorous talk by Superin-
tendent W. C. Andrews who
spoke on his trip to Russia and
its provinces. Mr. Andrews
showed slides to illustrate his
talks and answered many of
the interested questions.
The hostess served coffee
and juice with cookies, coffee
cake, and other refreshments.
Mr. Fred Howard has
returned home after a month in
the hospital with a broken leg.
He is looking forward to
company.
