Group Gives Youth Sunday
In September 1972. an active
youth group. The Methodist
Youth Fellowship. was
reorganized to face a new year
of programs
Rut rather than just
discussions, this group had
many and varied activities,
such as a hayride. picnic, a trip
to Houston Astroworld. dances
a skating party, goodwill
projects to the old folks home
and crippled children's
hospital, car wash, guest
speakers, and many, many
other events
The officers leading the
group are Peggy Parish,
president Stanley Cook, vice
president. Carol Warren,
secretary; Jim Parish,
treasurer. and Cody and Craig
Wiley, parhmentarians
Events are still happening
with may more planned in the
future One example is Youth
Sunday which required many
hours of patient practice for
the youth to present the entire
worship service Sponsors for
the youth are Mr and Mrs
Waters and Mr and Mrs
Stannard
Youth Sunday was given by
the M.Y.F to the congregation
of the First United Methodist
Church last Sunday. March 11
The program was well
received and possibly will be
later presented for other
churches
The overall program was
coordinated by Peggy Parish
Karen While managed the skit
with Terry White managing the
music for the program Anne
Abbott was the pianist
The program liegari by a
taped prelude of "Morning is
Broken" by Cat Stevens.
Then Kenny Adams gave an
introduction to the theme of
man's need for love in his
existence Next l.yn Heller
interpreted the poem "A
Reading in Unloved " Coming
next. “Things Get a Little
Easier" was presented in skit
form
The characters were Kenny
Adams, father. Danna Stan
nard. mother; Terry White,
son, Denise Berry, daughter;
Marianne Whitehurst,
daughter Ricky Stannard,
son Jim Parish, son; Kim
Dendy, daughter; and Stanley
Cook, policeman
Marianne Whitehurst then
gave a short disertation on the
lost lamb which was followed
by the taped song "Patterns"
by Simon and Garfunkel
Following this, Katy Ellis
explained that man did no!
have to live in dark patterns
but could have the light of

read First Corinthians, chapter
13 The poem, "One Solitary
Life" was interpreted by Jim
Parish Bruce Pitzer read John

"Old Rugged Cross ” Ushers.

Meadows then took up the
collection Russell Dickson
gave an offertory prayer and
Anne Abbott read Hie an
nouncements Karen Denton
explained that we must
recognize today's modern
leaders followed by Ed
Kilburnes’s taped song
"Abraham, Martin.and John"
Griffin Murphy then spoke of
how everyone is involved
without choice. Next came a
reading of the beautiful poem
“Desiderata" by Carol
Warren Stanley Cook told a
story of how the guiding force
could not be ignored which was
followed by the tape of "Games
People Play" by Ed Kilburne
Danna Stannard stressed that
prayer cannot be used for self
purposes after which a portion
of a tape was played entitled
"You Cannot Petition The Ixird
With Prayer "
Ricky Stannard talked about
how you cannot suit God to
your own ways
Next Denise Berry told of a
program change of having the
song "Come on People Now
la*ts Get Together" in place of
"My God" by Jethro Tull
Peggy Parish concluded with
how to find faith. God and love
in everyday life also reading
Matthew 17 20 The
Benediction was a tape of the
laird's Prayer by Ed Kilburne
with most of the congregation
and youth joining in the song
Brenda Graham served as
acolyte for the service
M.Y.F meets every Sunday
at6:30p m with all junior high
and senior high youth invited
A brief outline of last Sun
day's M Y F meeting would
include the following
discussions: The morning
youth service, the letter
received from another youth
group, a Karnes City High
School newspaper the success
of the M Y F product sale,
next Sunday's simulation
game, a guest speaker's ways
to interest other youth, a report
on up coming programs by
chairman Kim Dendy. the up
coming Laredo trip, our April
youth visitors from San An-
tonio, summer camp. Vacation
Bible School ideas and high
school workers, a possible
sunrise service, a possible
beach head retreat, the April
first skit for M Y F and this
Saturday's rummage sale
Then the group priced ar-
ticles for the rummage sale
which will be held this
Saturday, March 17. from 9
a m to 5 p m in the fellowship
hall of the First United
Methodist Church on Denver
Street
Many articles have already
come in such as toys, books,
clothes, furniture, purses,
shoes hair pieces and many
other items. Donations will be
readily accepted. Conctact
