BEAUTY CONTESTANT
//
Candy" Klein Likes Role of Being
Fenvale Dependent Upon Man"
Representing VT-28 in the
1971 Navy Relief Festival
Beauty Pageant will be 16-year
old Claudia “Candy” Klein of
Portland, Texas. The show will
be June 18, 19, and 20.
A sophomore at Gregory-
Portland High School, Candy is
an active member in the
Drama Club, high school choir,
Future Teachers Club and
Student Council.
Candy has modeled for area
fashion stores and was named
first runner up in the first
beauty contest she ever en
tered.
Her interests include
swimming, skiing, singing and
dancing. Her favorite singer is
a relatively new pop-artist,
Elton John.
Other than win the 1971 NRF
Beauty Contest, she would love
to travel and meet new and
interesting people this year. “I
want to travel throughout the
United States cause there is so
much of it to see,” she said. “A
lot of people decide to go to
Europe or the Far East, but
there are so many beautiful
places in America that they
tend to overlook. I may also be
able to better understand my
country and it’s problems if I
travel around.”
Candy raised a comment
about Women’s Liberation. “I
don’t believe in it, and I don’t
feel I’m being exploited. I
enjoy my role as a female and
being dependent upon the
man.”
She described the young man
she most admires as one who
has a good personality, is
courteous and considerate and
really enjoys life.
Her advice to young girls
who are starting to date for the
first time: “Be natural, and
really enjoy yourself. Don't be
anyone you’re not really like.”
Candy stands five feet,
six inches tall, weighs one
hundred twenty pounds, has
honey blonde hair, blue eyes
and measures 36-24-36.
She is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Charles Klein, 210
Broadway, Portland.
