June was a busy month for
the Portland Jaycees.
Jim Walters presented the
Yard-of-the-Month award for
June.
Ray Wolf and several
committeemen staged our first
family picnic which was en-
joyed by some 20 Jaycee
families.
Frank Malek arranged for
Dr. Frank Dotterweich of
Texas A & I to speak about
Pollution at our Dinner
Meeting.
Bill Koester presented a plan
for reconstructing the Youth
Center. The plan was approved
by our Board of Directors with
a budget of over $16,000 for
time, money and materials. We
earnestly ask each citizen and
civic organization to lend
support to this project. Bill will
lx? happy to inform anyone
interested as to our plans.
There were two projects
assigned for June that were not
started. Ken Kornfuhrer did
not activate Ken Hawkins as
chairman of Club Sports for
June and Max Cornelius failed
in his attempts to get Adan
Rangel active as chairman of
our Kids-to-Camp project.
Consequently, two otherwise
fine young men have missed an
opportunity to better them-
selves and their community.
The following assignments
have been approved by the
Board: Yard-of-the-Month-
Don Green, director; Jim
Walter, chairman. Youth
Center Reconstruction - Don
Green, director; Bill Koester.
chairman. Orientation - Pat
Corneaux, director; Roy
Kimper, chairman. Club
Sports and July Social - Ken
Kornfuhrer, director; Clavin
Grimes, chairman. Dinner
Meeting - Frank Malek,
director; Charles Norwood,
chairman.
Wo are very proud of Pete
Parsons, our Miss Gregory--
Portland for winning first
runner-up in the Miss South
Texas Pageant. Max Cornelius
is the director of this project.
Wo welcome Cliff Cox as the
newest Portland Jaycee. Cliff
is a cost engineer and is a
bachelor.
Richard Beck, John Stems
and Mike Puhek are con-
sidering membership. We hope
they join soon.
