Aliianv Tkx Oct 27 The mass
meetliiK held at the courthouse Saturday
evening for the purpose of discussing
railroad and county road matters was
tho most enthusiastic public meeting ever
held in Albany
The meeting was called to order by
permanent Chairman Gen Webb uttiSO
oclock andiiftorelectliig hIThompson
the editor of the News secretary Gen
Webb stated the objects of the meeting
In nn elaborate speech In which he por-

veying party of said road was now lu tho
Indian Teirltory a short distance from
tho Kails looking out tho most practica-
ble route preparatory to asking tliu next
congress to grant the right of way In
this connection he uiged Immediate action
on the part of our citizens to secure the ad-
vantages that the roail would present to
Albany as It was selfevident that it
would not stop at thu Kails but would
seek a Southern connection and as Al-
bany was on tho most direct and practi-
cable rout there were no reasons why
we Miould not he successful In ouroHorts
Ilo also discussed tho probabilities of an
early exteuslou of he Texas Central to
a connection with tho New Orleans
Denver road forming n junction with the

Thu speaker then said that from Ms ob-
servations ho was lead to believe
Unit it road would be built
from Wichita Kails to Kagle 1ass which
would naturally go through Albany He
nlso mentioned the Oklahoma nnd Texas
road fiom Kurt Scott to Wichita Kulls
The generals speech thioughout was
full of logic and foreshadowed the great
Impetus that would bo given to railroad
building In Texas in the mar future
Peter Hart Ksq was then called to
tho speakers stand and stated In his
preliminary remarks that he represented
II Uncle Io Mathews who since his
famous Plckelvlllo speech during Indian
times had totlred permanently from pub-

U V lteynolds and other pionrinent
wealthy men had empowered him to

to tho point and urged tmmediatu notion
In the premises

asking the meeting to pass a resolution
to be presented to he eoimnUsloners
