vaunted McAllen offensive game
cold last Friday night, Sept. 23rd,
In McAllen Stadium, and won the
battle of the field goals with a
thrilling last minute 6-5 victory
before more than 10,000 screaming
fans.

In to contention for the 4-A Dis-
trict title with a 2-0 district record
and an unblemished 4-0 record,
the only 4-A team still undefeated.
Although not a touchdown was
scored, there was never a more
thrilling game played between the
two teams, as the score see-sawed
3i0; 3-2, 5-3 and then the final score
of 6-5 with only 18 seconds to play.
It' was a defensive game all the
way, with McAllen making only 76
net yards from rushing the entire
frame and none from passing, while
they have been making 200 and
300 yards per game.
The Bears had 119 from rushing
and 32 from passing for a total of
151.
PSJA showed some offensive aut-
hority on their very first possess-

the McAllen 25 before running out

plays netted seven yards and then
David Peugh kicked a 26 yard
field goal to put McAllen in the
lead for the first time, 5-3, with

Later in the 4th quarter, the
Bears tried a field goal from the

a field goal try from the 29 was
high enough and far enough but
the ball hit the upright and
bounced back onto the field. There
was 3:15 minutes left and it looked
like this may be the last chance
.for the battlin’ Bears.
But the Bears came back with
1:42 seconds left to kick the win-
ning field goal. PSJA took over
on their own 36 after a 41-yard Mc-
Allen punt. Cruz made 10 yards,
and then McAllen got a 31 yard
pass interference call - to the Mc-
Allen 23. After Villescas made 3
to the 20, McAllen got a 10-yard
after the whistle penalty that put
the ball on the 10. Cruz made two
and then threw the ball out of
bounds on a pass to stop the clock
and get the kicking crew in. With
the ball held on the 22, Cavazos
kicked the ball squarely thru the
uprights to put the Bears into the
lead again with only 18 seconds
left.
After a fine run-back of the kick-
off to the 40, PSJA received a 15-
yard penalty after the Whistle.
