The Texas

dation has selected
Dallas as the site for
its 1984 Annual
Convention. The
convention will be
held May 17-19,1984
at the Loews
Anatole Hotel.
Convention par-

treated to topics
ranging from how to
trace your family
tree, how to record
your local
hometown history,
archeology ap-
proaches, to the
most current preser-

state and local level.
Prominent
professionals in-
volved in all phases
of historic preser-

The opening
session entitled
“The Organic City-
The Relationship
Between Historic
Preservation and
City Development of
” presents divergent
views of historic
preservation as it
relates to the
development of the
modern city. A
panel composed of
a prominent ar-
chitect, developer,
and urban design
consultant and led
by a scholar in the
humanities will
debate the un-
derlying values
associated with
historic preser-
vation. Plans are
being made to film
the session which
will provide the
basis for a PBS
Documentary con-
cerned with historic
preservation and ur-
ban development.
A special feature of
this years conven-
tion will be a mini-
conference spon-
sored by the preser-
vation center of Nor-
th Texas, Inc. If you
have good ideas for
historic preservation
projects in your
communities, come
find out how to turn
those good inten-
tions into good
projects.
Come learn what’s
going on in local and.
state historical
organizations by
viewing a special
exhibit of their
programs and ac-
tivities, other special
events include craft
displays by quilters,
bootmakers, and
carpenters as they
demonstrate how it
used to be done!
Tours of historic
Dallas and Old City
Park are being of-
fered as well as a
special screening of
a 1928 Texas made
movie, The Texans,
starring Joan Ben-
nett. The Texas
Historical Foun-
