Crosbyton CISD
School Board
Report
by Shawn Mason, Superintendent
The Crosbyton CISD
Board of Trustees met in
regular session on Thursday,
January 19th at 7:00 PM.
The Board took action to ap-
prove the consent agenda,
which includes items of a
routine and/or recurring na-
ture, such as minutes and fi-
nancial reports, grouped to-
gether under one action item.
During Mr. Mason’s su-
perintendent’s report, he in-
formed the Board that the
district will be hosting an
Academic Challenge Meet
sponsored by the Texas As-
sociation of Community
Schools on February 3rd.
High school students from
our area will compete in a
TEKS based contest, and
the winning teams will be
awarded scholarship money.
He also provided the Board
with the details for the
Crosby County Board Ap-
preciation Dinner, which the
district will be hosting for
all the county school board
members on February 2nd.
Mr. Mason then informed
the Board that he would be
presenting a program at the
upcoming TASA Mid-Win-
ter Conference. He will team
with Dr. Scott Ridley, Dean
of Texas Tech College of
Education, to present the dis-
trict’s partnership with Texas
Tech on their 2+1 Teacher
Certification Program. This
program has been in place
at Crosbyton CISD since
August 2016, and it allows
teaching candidates, who
have an academic associate’s
degree, to obtain a teaching
certificate during a one year
intensive program that in-
volves hands-on experience
at the campus level with
class time at the university.
He also informed the Board
that through this presenta-
tion that he and Dr. Ridley
are hoping to use Crosbyton
CISD as a model to expand
this program throughout the
state.
During the time allotted
for discussion, Mr. Mason
led a brief discussion on the
May school board election,
and updated the Board on the
progress on requesting pro-
posals for the management
of the district’s cafeteria.
The Board then entered into
a discussion of the release of
the new A -F Accountability
system. Mr. Mason detailed
how each of the four do-
mains were scored, and the
data that was used in each
domain. He also reminded
the Board that this pre-limin-
ary run of the A - F system
was intended as a test run,
and that the final system will
be changed considerably be-
fore it goes into effect after
the 2018 school year.
The Board then took ac-
tion to approve the Crosby-
ton CISD’s Federal Grant
Policies and Procedure Man-
ual, and amended the budget
to cover the cost of an activ-
ity bus the district purchased
in August.
The Board then went into
executive session to com-
plete Mr. Mason’s annual
evaluation. When the Board
returned from this session,
they voted to approve the
evaluation and to extend Mr.
Mason’s contract, keeping
in place a three year agree-
ment that extends through
the 2020 school year.
The next regular Board
meeting is scheduled for
Thursday, February 16th at
7:00 PM.
