The writer Is a resident of this city and a

ed that something was wrong in tho ac-
tion ol tho Uy towards tho country peo
plo At least such has been tho com-
plaint In proof of this I Will only niase
mention of o lew things First I heard
through my alliance that there was un
filr dealings by tho grain merchants and
cotton buyers of this city Next tho ac-
tion of tho operahouse convention and
then followed tho numerous falsehoods
published in tho different papers of the
cltyovbrallot which tho suballiances
feel ceply grieved so much so that thoy
aro now preparing as fast as possible to
start ooperattvo stoics all over tho
county They claim that the city la re
sponslolo for all tho trouble and ha made
tho ditch and will havo to brldgo It
before they will trade any mora with It-
s proof of this this city has already lost
11600 bales of cotton raised In ttus county
which havo been sold at other places and
double that amount will shortly follow
All this cotton as hetotoforo should have
come to this place fleing a member ot
tho alliance I know wtcreof 1 write I
have worked and shall continue to work
for a reconciliation ot this miserable stato
of affairs which should bo deplored by
every business man and property holder
ot this city It or some other unknown
cause has seriously lnjurod my business
and I hear tho same complaint from every
business man with whom I converse For
the sake ot the city our businessmen
will have to do something to bring about
this reconciliation or allow their busi-
ness to dwindle down to utter Insignifi-
cance Unless you can command tho lo
cal trado ot your own county you know
you cannot subsist on the trade ot the
surrounding counties and to be at peace
