Charleston and Lake Creek News
By Vicki Vasco
We have still been getting lots
of nice rain. We can always use
some more. Don had his hay
grazer cut ready to be bailed.
The weather is getting colder.
Jeff Preas said that it was 39
degrees last Sunday morning.
We got 2 1/8 inches of rain
Saturday. There were lots of
people in Paris Saturday for
the Pumpkin Festival, but it
had to be called off because of
the rain.
Betty Thompson had company
last weekend. Her daughter
Annette from Texarkana
visited. She and Betty attended
the Pleasant Grove football
game Friday evening. That is
Annette’s school. They had a
good time. Betty attended the
66^ Wedding Anniversary
of Buddy and Julia Hussey
in Paris at the Sterling House
last Sunday afternoon after she
attended the 125 Anniversary
of the Pacio Baptist Church.
Rickey Click reported at
Church last Sunday that his
Aunt Vera Mae (Click) is
living in Sulphur Springs. He
went to see her one day last
week. He reported that his
Aunt June (Click) is living at
Lake Whitney. He talked to
her on the phone one day last
week. Rickey has just had a
serious operation on his hand.
He is just now able to be out
and about.
Barbara Colvin is doing
better. She got to come home
from the hospital. She has
been on the prayer list at our
Church.
Curley Bowen is doing better.
I saw him and Willie Faye at
the Fish Place in Pecan Gap
last weekend. He has been on
our prayer list at Church.
The Rummage Sale for
the Hope House is Saturday,
November 9, in front of Jason
Ingram’s Hwy 24 Feed &
Lumber.
Saturday, November 2,
the Enloe United Methodist
Church is having their Lord’s
Acre. Everyone is invited to
attend.
I got a nice thank-you card
from Mrs. Melba Jones last
week. She asked that we
remember her son Judd in our
prayers. He is having health
problems.
Birthdays: Carol McChesnee,
Steve James and Colin Ingram
10/29; Pat Scott and Mack
Larkin (99) 10/31. (Mack’s
family is not having a big
birthday party for her this year.
They are waiting until next
year when she will be 100.)
Happy birthday, folks!
Our condolences are for the
family and friends of Mrs.
Mary Jo Leslie, of Commerce,
formerly of Cooper. Mrs. Leslie
passed away Oct. 17. She had
two daughters, Ellen Oats and
Elaine Stotts.
Our condolences are for the
family and friends of Robert
Lee of Houston, brother of
Betty Lee, Robert passed away
Thursday, Oct. 24. He was Don
Smith’s cousin.
The East Delta Baptist
Church had their chili supper
Saturday, Oct. 26, from 5 to 7
and their Harvest Festival that
same day from 6 to 8. The chili
was delicious, just right for
these cool fall days. Lots of
people attended those events.
They even had a bounce house
for the kids and lots of games.
East Delta Baptist Church had a
lunch in the Church Sunday.
Lainey Huie is working at
the Silver Skillet in Cooper and
attending Paris Jr. College.
Jalie Swaim’s Chisum Jr.
High Volleyball team won
their games against Clarksville
Monday evening. Attending
that game were Julie Swaim
and Destin, Katie Malone, and
DeeAnn Hamner and Dawson.
Dawson and Jalie spent Friday
night with their grandmother
Katie Malone.
Katie Malone, Dustin Swaim,
and Shirley Smith met in Paris
at Sandwich, Etc. Friday and
had lunch. After lunch they
attended the pep rally at Chisum
High School.
The Daughters of the Republic
of Texas met Saturday at
the Paris Golf and Country
Club for lunch and a business
meeting, Holly Blackmon had
been to San Antonio to the
Alamo to see William Barret
Travis’ letter. She talked about
the letter and showed us a copy
of it. It was a very interesting
program.
One group had a costume party
at the East Delta Community
Center Saturday evening. There
was a large group at that party.
I could tell from the number of
cars there.
John Jackson was the Worship
Leader at the Methodist Sunday,
and Sandra Morgan was the
Children’s Time Leader. Bill
Coleman of Paris brought the
sermon due to the absence
of Gary Regan. Bill is the
Associate Pastor of the First
Methodist in Paris, and he works
at Liberty National Bank. Joumi
Ingram, Madison Murray and
Billy Watson were the candle
lighters.
Joumi Ingram got a deer
Saturday.
Mike and Kelly Bush of
Whitefield, OK and their two
daughters visited Kenny and
Linda Baker last weekend.
Have a good week!

TO ALL VOTERS -
PLEASE READ THIS! Anew
rule this year for voting says
you MUST have a valid photo
ID. This can be a driver’s
license, state issued ID card,
military ID, or other state or
government issued photo ID
card. If you do not have one
and wish to vote, please go to
the courthouse to the office
of County Judge. They can
make a voter ID card for you
there in time for the election on
November 5, 2013.
Patricia Blundell heard from
her daughter Rebecca this
week. Savannah Hunt spent
the weekend with Patricia and
attended church before going
home on Sunday. Patricia and
Billy went to eat fish at Pecan
Gap.
Cindy and Gary Anderson are
home after a21/2 week vacation
in Washington State. They
were visiting with daughter
Melissa and granddaughter
Lexie. While there they visited
many historic sites as well as
several natural sites. They
enjoyed seeing the ocean and
searching for shells, some still
with the living creatures inside.
They visited Ft. Casey that still
guards the entrance to Puget
Sound. While there they saw
two separate herds of sea lions
on the beach. One day, they
drove up Mt. Rainier to play on
the snow-capped volcano. (The
ride up Mt. Rainier was Cindy’s
least favorite thing - the road
was way too close to the edge
for her comfort!) They visited
Seattle where Gary, Lexid and
Harley rode a huge ferris wheel
with enclosed compartments
and then visited the Seattle
Aquarium. Lexie plays flute
in the band and marched in a
parade while they were visiting.
Seeing her march was a special
treat as well. Cindy said that in
the mornings, from Melissa’s
back door, you can see Puget
Sound. Then in a short time,
the fog rolls in just as it does
in those old-time scary movies.
But it was interesting to see. All
in all, they had a great time! We
are glad they are home safely.
Pearl Foster said a lot of
the men in her family went
hunting in South Texas this
weekend. They called that they
were nearing Dallas Sunday
afternoon and that Gene had
gotten a 6-pt buck and Daniel
had two kills - one buck and
one doe. Others in the group
were successful as well.
Mabel Wheat has been busy
all week squelching rumors of
her death!! Her great-nephew
called to reassure himself that
she was indeed still alive.
Someone also called Miller’s
Drug Store to ask if Mabel had
passed away. So Marion Miller
drove to her house to check
it personally. So if you hear
this rumor, please correct the
misconception! In fact, Hershal
and Bennie were here Tuesday
to take Mabel to the heart doctor
on Wednesday. He told her her
heart was doing well.
Wanda Helms did some
shopping with Kendra this
weekend. Kendra entered an
essay contest with the FFA
and won a trip to Kentucky!!
Congratulations! Wanda and
Billy also had lunch with Lisa
and the girls at Juan Pablo’s in
Sulphur Springs.
Larry and Misty George
had his children this weekend.
Gus also came to visit as did
Tanner’s friend Kane.
Tina Rainey said their church
had a pot luck chili supper on
Saturday which was open to
the community. They also
had games and activities for
the children. On Sunday after
church, they had a “feast” to
honor their pastor Bro. Jake
and celebrate his 15 years
of service. Last week was
Lindsay’s baby shower. Several
family members came but some
brought more than gifts - the
brought “The Virus”!! Even
with all precautions, some
of the Klondike family was
infected. Seems to be over now,
PTL!
Janet and Jerry Currin
proudly announce the arrival
of Caden James on Oct. 22. He
weighed 7 lb, 11 oz and was 20
inches long. Mother and Baby
are doing fine. Not too sure
about the grandparents, though.
Will let you know when they
come back to Earth!! Jerry, at
least, has to be back on Earth
by Nov. 5 when he opens his
barber shop in Cooper!
Maggie Thomas said she
missed P.J.’s birthday earlier
this month and wanted to wish
her long-time friend a very
happy belated birthday!
Twenty-five descendants

Pecan Gap News
By Nelda Campbell
The Pecan Gap Methodist
Church is having their annual
Lord’s Acre Luncheon this
coming Saturday, November
2nd, 11:30-1:00 at the
Community Center. There
will be turkey, dressing and
all the trimmings. Everyone is
welcome!
Recently the Stancil siblings
enjoyed a trip to Branson,
Missouri together and saw
two shows. Making the trip
were Toni Stancil Woodall,
Avos Stancil, and Terri Stancil
Nichols and husband Ron from
Sherman. The group saw Shoji
which included a preview of his
Christmas show that they really
enjoyed. They also saw Neal
McCoy, a country and western
performer. They accidentally
took a wrong road leading into
Branson which was a scenic
route with a winding road and
they enjoyed seeing an Amish
farmer in his horse and buggy.
Peggy Sandlin and Peggy
Durham were honored Sunday,
October 20^, to have Mrs.
Burleson, her daughter Gayle,
Gayles’s daughter-in-law
Heather with Heather’s baby
son for lunch. The day was
made even more enjoyable by
former students James Carl
Deatherage, Morris White with
wife Wanda, and Janice Connell
with husband Kelly coming by
to see Mrs. Burleson. Janice had
a book about the much loved
Dragon for Mrs. Burleson to
sign, and then everyone wanted
to have their picture made with
this much loved teacher - a
special time for everyone.
Peggy Durham was in
Mineola and Tyler Tuesday
visiting friends. They visited
the beautiful Tyler Rose
Gardens.

John and Peggy Moss
spent this past weekend in
the Dallas Area attending the
Hunter/Jumper Blue Ribbon
“A” Horse Show at the Las
Colinas Equestrian Center.
Their granddaughter, Sydni,
participated as a jumper and
won several ribbons.
Pecan Gap got around 2
inches of much needed rain
Saturday evening and night. I
was glad that it didn’t wash my
newly planted pansies out of the
ground. They still have their
heads sticking up.
The First Baptist Church
Pecan Gap had their fall
luncheon after church services
Sunday. The food and fellowship
was really good. Now, we
are looking forward to the
Methodist Luncheon Saturday
with more good food. Pecan
Gap has really special cooks.
