HIGHWAY FIGHT GETS
TWO ROBSTOWN MEN
IN JAIL AT CORPUS

Monday prepared to file charges
against W. Q. Richardson and Ray-
mond McGee of Robstown, who are
held in the county jail in connection
with a cutting affray on the highway
uear Clarkwood late* Saturday night.
The Robstown men are alleged to
have attacked Guy McEJvany, C. A.
Cadell and H. W. Cadell with knives
and brass knucks when an argument
ensued after Richards and McGee stop
ped the other three men on the high
way and asked for gasoline.
McElvau.v was seriously wounded
during the fight. He was severely cut
in the abdomen and about the face.
The Cadell brothers were struck with
brass knucks. according to their in-
formation given Patrolman Burl Mo-
\llister and Frank Krees.
The three Injured men live In Cor-
pus Christi. McElvany lives at 917
Laredo street ami the Cadell brothers
! have rooms on the corner of Agnes
j and Staples streets.
Officers declare the two Robstown
j men were still threatening McElvany
with knives when they arrived. A pair

Meet Kenedy Sunday
ENTERTAIN BIBLE CLASS
Mrs It G. Smith delightfully enter-
tained the members of the T. E. L.
Bible Class of the First Baptist
Church last Tuesday afternoon ai her
home on West Kenedy avenue.
A regular business meeting of the
class was held followed by a social
l our that was enjoyed exceedingly by
ine class and invited guests. Cake
and punch were served.
The T. E. L. ('lass extends a cordial
invitation to all the Baptist ladies and
visitors to join the class which meets
every Sunday morning at 10 o’clock.
At tlie next regular meeting of the
T. E. L. Class the Dorcas Class will
be lie guests at the home of Mrs.
Fred Miller.
The Kingsville Firemen organized
their foot ball team last Friday and as
a proof of their pep and faith in their
prowess as a real foot ball eleven
have matched their first game of the
season to be played u^xt Sunday, Oc-
tober the 17th with the Kenedy Inde-
pendents. The game promises to be
j full of thrills, for the Firemen are of
the opinion that they are going to win
every game this season and are rarin’
to go.
Fire Chief Stuth says the line-up
j is practically the same as that last
year and that the boys are really good.
They have been practicing daily and
with a small amount of encourage-
ment will make a team that Kings-
\ille might well be proud to have rep
; resent the town.
The game Sunday will be held on
i he College Grid at 3: .70 and everyone
is invited and urged to come out and
root for the Fire Boys. Your moral
support being as welcome to them as
your four-hits, come out and you’ll
yell whether you want to or not.

Rural and small town residents may
borrow about 500 biographies from the
State Library, Austin, for payment
j only of transportation postage,
“Some Notable Men and Women" is
i the title of a mimeographed list, which
is now being distributed by the State
Library, giving the surname of the
subject of the biography, the author,
and the date of nearly 500 biographies
in the State Library.
The purpose of this list. Miss Oct-a-
via F. ltogan. State Librarian said, is
to let residents of the State know de-
finitely what biographies may be bor-
rowed. In the past inquiries have had
to be told that the Library either did
net have the requested titles or that
they were too rare to be circulated.
A copy of the list “Some Notable
Men and Women.” with rules for bor-
rowing the books listed may be ob-
tained gratis by , writing the Texas

Mrs. Joe Woods was hostess to
about twenty members of the Ladies
j Society of the B. of L. F. & E. at her
home last Friday evening, entertain-
ing delightfully with a lawn social.

bers of the organization were several

the class for the splendid co-operation
she had been given during her terra
as class president.
Addresses were made by Rev. Buch-
anan and Judge McCracken.
Mrs. F. W. Richmond, class treas
uier. made a splendid financial report
for the year.
Mrs. Fitch, the new president, asked
the support of all the class, expressing
hope of a very profitable year ahead.
A pleasing program consisting of
little Edna Butler, Baby Joe Keepers
ora Gregory and Masters Saters,
Saters. Moore and Conner was greatly
enjoyed.
The high light of the evening was the
“Class History” given by Mrs. Earl
Young when, she moved Old Father
Time up and cleverly told what each
member was doing. This caused a
round of merriment.
Mrs. Gregory, on behalf of the class,
presented Mrs. Hall with a loveiv
gift, while Mr. McCracken was also
presented with a gift from the class.
Music was furnished throughout the
evening by an orchestra.
A prayer by Dr. Cousins closed the
affair.

Miss Rose Jenett Westlake was host

Monday evening. October 11th at her
home, celebrating her twelfth birth-
day with a lawn party. Various games

the Vanity Beauty Shop, located above
the offices of the Kleberg County Oil
& Gas Company on East Kleberg and
is now ready to serve the old patrons

owner of the Vanity, selling the shop
when she end Mr. McRoberts purchas-
ed a similar business in Dallas where
they have made their home for the
