Marcus Bennett Is assisting at the
First National Bank at Kingsville.
Mrs. R. M. Colo and mother, Mrs.
W. \V. White spent last Sunday in San
Benito with Mr. Cole.
Mrs.' W. W. White left Tuesday night
for Thornton to visit with her mother
who has been ill for some time.
Miss Pauline Richey is staying in
Kingsville with Mrs. McClanahan
where she will stay during the winter
while attending the College.
Mrs. L T. Cannon and IT. Jr.,
Mrs. U. S. Bitterman and Mrs. (!. C.
Bayles spent one day last week at the
home of W. W. White and family.
Mrs. Herman Haase, and son Her-
man. Jr., of Memphis, Twin., are stay-
ing at the Riviera Hotel wliilo attend-
ing to business affairs concerning her
property in this section.
\V. C. Adams is building a new two
room bungalow on the Adams proper-
ty east of tin* Traveler’s Garage. He is
assisted in the work by his Brother
John Adams. Mr. and Mrs. Adams will
occupy the new home while he is em-
ployed at Kingsville as a painter.

ed three carloads of new models of
Star cars Monday, seventeen new cars
in all. The shipment Included all of
the 1027 models in both fours and six-
es. The new roadster four is put out
in blue lacquer with black top, and
black belt, line The new touring fours
are finished in Persian blue with black,
making a very attractive car. The
powerful six cylinder landau sedan Is
finished in a rich shade of powder blue
with black, with fine quality upholster
ing and inner fittings. The new model

Mr. Frede was a noble citizen a
kind friend, a loving Christian and a
devoted husband and father. He is
missed by us all hut what rejoicing
among the saints to welcome home
that one who has taken time in this
life to prepare for the greater life that
is now his.

God to comfort them as He is the only

MOTHER OF MARCUS PHILLIPS
DIES AT HOME IN McLANE
Mr. and Mrs Marcus Phillips ar
rived home this morning after several
weeks tour of the west, to find await
ing them here a message Htatlng that
Mr. Phillips’ mother, Mrs. W. <’ Phil-
lips, hail died at McLain, Texas. At
FI Paso Mr and Mrs. Phillips were
notified that his mother was serious-
ly ill and they changed th< ir route to
go by and see ber. Her condition seem-
ed greatly improved and they left her
believing that she would .recover The
many friends of Mr Phillips deebly
sympathize with him in the loss of his
mother.
Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Smith of Wes
laco, spent the week-end with Mr.
and Mrs. Ross Pruitt.
Mr. and Mrs. John Morgan and little
daughter, John, returned Sunday even
ing from a motor tour to various parts
of the State.
Misses Mary Frances Ford and Mr.
C. L. Ford and Mr Leonard Moor:'
motored to San Antonio Saturday, the
Miss<*s Ford remaining for an indefin-
ite visit with their sister, Mrs Oils
Mergele.
Miss Alula McBride left last week
for Boerne to visit her little brother,
J. B., who is there with relatives for
Iiis health. J. It. was not doing so well,
having had an attack of asthma Miss
McBride is expected to return home
this week.
Miss Georgia A. Collins, of Wash
lngton, D. C , arrived at Galveston last
Tuesday on the San Jacinto, and at
Kingsville Wednesday morning, for a
visit of several weeks with Mrs.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles If. Wilson are
here visiting Mrs. Wilson’s brother
and family, Mr. and Mrs. W. W.
Hawks. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson motored
from their home in Lawrence. Kansas,
to Portales, New Mexico, and were ac-
companied from that place by Mr. and
Mrs. Marion Hawks, Mr. W. W. Hawks’
nephew and neice.
This community was shocked and
grieved at the horrible tragedy that
befell the family of our friend and
neighbor, Fred Filing, Sunday morn-
ing. Our hearts go out in sympathy to
Mrs. Filing and her son in the loss of
her husband and two children. Mr.
and Mr- Filing hud < lablished them
selves as part of our community, had
bought, and greatly improved a farm
west, of Ricardo, and proved them
selves good neighbors And what can

A large number of ladies spent a
