COL. BILL BOLL WFEViL SAYS:
“Please leave me some green
cotton to aet this fall.”
will destroy many other species of in-
sects injurious to cotton and other
crops. In brief the measures recom-
mended are:
(1» The prompt plowing under of
the cotton or other crop as soon as
harvesting has been completed:
where cotton root rot is concerned it
will be best to expose the roots to the
air
(2) Occasional harrowing or disking
during (lie winter to break up the
pupal cells of the boll worm and some
other insects.
(3) Burning of trash along fences
and ditches to destroy the adults ot
weevils and other injurious insects
wintering there
Burning of crop residues on the
field is a bud practice and is not re-
commended.

Kingsville. Texas
Shortly there will he issued by l bn
United States government a new dol-
lar bill which will he two-thirds the
size of the one now in use. It will re-
place the old dollar bill because it is
cheaper to make. It requires less
paper, less ink. smaller engraving
plates and reduces (lie cost of distri-
bution. The saving in paper alone will
amount to a million and a half dollars
a year.
Not so long ago the government at
Washington begun to spread propo-
ganda to increase the use of silver
dollars The argument was economy,
because the life of a silver dollar is
much longer than the life of a silver
certificate.
The average life of a dollar hill is
one year and since there are always
a half million dollar bills in the pock-
ets of the people of the United States
and at least this number has to bo
printed annually, to replace those
worn out.
The reaction to the government's
dollar was unfavorable and treasury
department officials seeking a cam-
paign for wider use of silver was to
overcome the enormous expense of
printing dollar bills, hit upon the
plan of decreasing their .size.
Texas Fossils On
Display In Germany
Austin, Texas, Sept 28. It is a
long way from West Texas to the
University of Munich In southern
Germany. Notwithstanding the great
distance, one of the best and most
representative collections of fossils
of the Texas Permian formations is
housed in (hi* museum there, accord
lag to Dr K If. Bollards, associate
director of the Bureau of Keonomic
Geogolgy of the University of Texas.
The existence of a fine collection of
fossils depicting the natural history of
Texas housed in a foreign museum af-
fords. according to Dr. Hellards, the
most convincing argument for n State

The East Ward faculty and student
body are very much delighted with
their latest gift, a beautiful Victrola
from Mrs. Jno. I). Finnegan
During the P. T. A. meeting last
Friday after Mr. Harvey had present
ed his plans to include music appro-,
edit ion in the school, and had men- !
tinned that it would he necessary to
have the old Victrola repaired or to,
get a new one, Mrs. Finnegan rose to;
say that she would tie pleased to do
ante her Victrola for that purpose. It
was delivered the following Monday . j
Mrs. Finnegan lias always shown great !
interest in school affairs and now
although no longer a patron of i-disi !
Ward, she is very evidently still a
friend.
