Pecan harvest
in full swing
Pecan Harvest in Medina County
is in full swing.
As you harvest pecans, please re-
member the Annual Winter Garden
Pecan Show to be held Tuesday.
Dec. 1 at the Medina County Fair
Grounds.
To enter the pecan show you need
45 nuts of one variety (can come
off more than one tree if same
variety). They need to be the lar-
gest, most uniform in size, color,
and shape and be free of insect
damage.
A gram scale is the easiest way
to find the heaviest pecans, which
normally weigh out the heaviest
kernels.
The pecan entry must be grown
by the exhibitor and be of the 1987
pecan crop. An exhibitor may enter
as many different varieties as he
wants, but may have only one entry
of each variety.
If you do not know what variety
you have, this will be a good oppor-
It's important to read
your insurance policy
Even when consumers do a good
job of comparison shopping among
companies for insurance coverage,
they seldom take the extra step of
reading the actual policy after buy-
ing it. Why bother to wade through
the often hard-to-understand termin
ology? Family financial experts say
it could save you a few surprises if
you ever have to make a claim on
the policy.
"An insurance policy is a contract
which should be read, just like any
other legal document." explains
Mary Clayton Nance, a specialist
with the home economics program
of the Texas Agricultural Extension
Service. "Policy language can be
difficult to understand, but it has
evolved, in part, out of court cases.
Precise language is needed so the
policies will stand up in court." she
adds.
