Sitting here in the aftermath of Christmas, I was won

CHRISTMAS IS PAST
Christmas is past, (at last i, I thought it would never end
Oh it was merry, very merry, with love of family and
friends
In and out the house they came. and all we are glad to
see. the present that you brought for us. just put it under the
tree
There it stands that Christmas tree 1 laboured on so long,
piled to the top with presents, now they all are gone
In the midst of dishes so high, that big brown bird now a
skeleton lies
Tinsel and paper on the floor, the wreath hanging
crooked on the door _
One more guest to try and feed, Cm in the kitchen to

Where did all the dishes come from. 1 thought I
washed every last one'
Christmas candy stuck on the couch, a wad of gum I'll
never get out
Who spilled the tea on the floor, will someone please shut
that door!1
Another piece of pie. a piece of cake, you can't be hungry,

Evening time is here at last and all the guest are fed. Oh I
can hardly wait to go up to my bed

Sitting here alone at last, my thoughts run through my
mind,
What on earth will I serve next year at Christmas time'’

Rothenberg: Children With Emerald Eyes
Poindexter Visitors
HY I.YRA SPARKS
Mira Kothentierg works with
autistic, chitophrenic,
disturbed children-tome of
whom have been mislabeled
retarded and impossible Now
she has written a book-a book
with an unusual title:
"Children with Emerald
Eyes"-an account of some of
her mast dramatic cases
It is not a mere compilation
of case histories It is a story of
children in trouble 'some of
wham are cured and some not I
and of their therapist herself
who sees and describe* them
uniquely with a degree of
patience, tenderness, and
understanding that is
genuinely remarkable
Some of her cases have been
marked by having parents who
came out of German con-
centration camps Mira,
herself a Jew. must reach out
and work with the families-
some too scarred ever to be
effectively reached Chaim,
the son of one such family, has
absorbed the terror and pain
his mother experienced and he
became a victim too
One reviewer has said that
this book is a series of detective
stories how or why the
children are as they are and
how to break through the
frightening, stubborn defenses
they have erected against the
world and bring (hem bark to
everyday living
The hook is worth reading for

Anthony who needed

loved- the DP kids who needed

hales Sara who felt displaced
and regressed after her

Most of all reading this book
brings an awesome humility-
why were we favored and do
we deserve It? There is an urge
to kneel and pray not only for
these unfortunates but to
marvel at Mira's patience in
helping them and to utter an
almost frightening thanks for
the adjusted, happy children
that are a part of our world

free income tax service to
older taxpayers, according
to Sid McGee, coordinator
for the Coastal Bend
Program
McGee said that persons
volunteering to serve as
counselors should have a
sincere interest in serving
older adults and have some
general knowledge of tax
matters They also should be
willing to participate in an
Internal Revenue Service
training course and agree to
devote at least four hours a

week to providing tax
counseling
There were 34 volunteers
introduced to the self-
teaching. three day IRS
course at Del Mar early in
December Volunteer
counselors do not have to be
NRTA or AARP members,
but they should be older
persons since a unique
feature of Tax Aide is an
emphasis on peer-group
assistance. McGee pointed
out
"Some of our best coun-
selors sre retired
professionals," he said
"Since the training course
emphasizes tax benefits for
older adults and not general
tax return preparation, those
volunteers who are already
familiar with taxes have a
head start and usually make
better counselors "
"Since our counselors do
not charge a fee for their
service." he said, "the IRS
does not require them lo sign
returns and does not hold
them responsible for un-
derpayment of taxes on the
returns with which they
assist "
The Tax-Aide program
will offer assistance to older
