Allergies From Cosmetics
U it really only akin deep1’ 111
let you be the Judge of that
A* good as cosmetic* are, mm
person* can exhibit allergies to
them These allergies usually
come from three basic ingre-
dient* contained in most
cosmetics.
| First there art perfumes or
Scents built into the bulk of
cosmetic items. They make the
product smell nice, but many
European companies have ex-
tracted their fragrance from
natural sources, such as flowers
as roots to enhance the smell of
the product and lessen the chance
of an allergic reaction.
Second among the problems
come the various preservatives
These chemicals stop bacterial
and fungal growth in your
coemetics. Fair enough, but these
same preservatives may also
cause skin reaction for some peo-
ple.
Another troublemaker is the
addition of colors or dyes. For ex-
ample. rouge, lipstick, eye-
shadows, all basic make-up, con-
tain dyes that transfer to the skin.
When this occurs, you may have
a breakout
Keep in mind that many
cosmetics have all three of these
ingredients wrapped into one pro-
duct There is always a chance
for an allergic reaction and the
possibilities are many
Hew can you protect yourself
and minimize the chance of a
reaction'1
Before investing a lot of money
in a product, go on a sample pro-
gram Many good quality
cosmetics have samples for you
to try out, giving you enough pro-
duct for a week
In that time, your skin has a
chance to react. In order to avoid
a possible break out over the
face, put the cosmetics on the in-
side of your elbow or below the
ear to test it for reactions.
M If you see no signs of inflama-
Jybn or any other reaction, you
■might want to purchase a com-
plete set
If you have chosen a line, do not
look for tile bargain ” Good skin
care is not cheap Ytu can
“save” a little by putting it on
sparingly, since the skin can oily
absorb a small amount That is
one way of stretching it.
Also consider not hopping from
product to product. Buy tse com-
plete line, but only what you need
for your skin type
If you use different name
brands, there could be a [osailnh
ty of a counter-reaction between
products. On the other liand. be
aware of paying for fanc j labels
Let us examine some skin care
necessities A lot ot good lines
Just have one cleansing cream or
lotion that suits every type of
skin, since ail you're doing is
gently cleaning the skin. Some of-
fer cleansing creams according
to your skin type
My least favorite is the astr-
ingent. s sort of ladies version of
the men's after shave lotions.
Broth contain alcohol, they are
refreshing, but might be toe dry-
uig and rough for your sun
Despite some extravagant
advertising to the contrary, there
exists no evidence that istrmgent
lotions will close or even shrink
tile pores of your skin. .Utnngent
lotion is not the answer You
might want to change over to a
toner that has very little alcohol
or none at all.
You now need a good
moisturizer for your particular
skin type. A good moisturizer
:ieais in the water ir the skin,
lubricates and protects without
clogging the skin Some contain
proteins and herbal rxtmcts to
heal and sooth the skin
A good mask for your skin type
should not be overlooked The
mask usually has a tightening
deep cleaning. b*aling. texturiz-
ing effect
One important fact ain't be
overlooked Once you have
chosen a good product, use it
faithfully. Also massage the skin
at night, it will increase your
blood circulation, tore the facial
muscles and improve the texture
and looks of you skin
Remember, this is just Che
beginning Keep tuning in
