awards Texas scholarships
TARKINGTON SCHOOL MENU
The U.S. Department of Education
has awarded $591,175 to fund 369
Robert Byrd Scholarships in Texas,
U.S. Sen. Phil Gramm has an-
nounced.
The funding will be provided to the
Texas State Education Agency, he
said.
“This is a program under which
individual states can provide college
scholarships to promote student
excellence and achievement.”
Gramm said.
“The Byrd scholarships recognize
Six Tarkington Junior High
band members won the
highest honor at the UIL Solo
and Ensemble Contest in
La Porte. They received a
first division ranking. Those
receiving first divisions
were: top - Robert Carr, Kim
Vandermark, Devon
Rodgers and Doug Goforth.

District UIL competition in Montgomery
recently. The school won first place overall
with 37 students winning recognition. The
