miles per gallon was established j
by a group of 34 Mercury cars in j
tours equal to a distance of more |
that four times around the world
at the equator.
The tests were conducted
throughout the United States and
the cars negotiated a total of
112,206 miles over every kind of j
road, encountering weather that •
included everything from snow, !
ice, mud and rain to bright sun- j
shine. Traffic conditions varied '
from snail’s-pace, big city traf-
fic jams to the freedom of an
open roads.
During these runs, the cars vi-

Wheat containing more than 14% mois-
ture will not he eligible for loans. How-
ever, the producer has the- privilege of
applying it on the loan after the wheat
has been conditioned by a Terminal el-
evator. This conditioning is rather an ex-
pensive process, therefore we suggest
that your wfheat be ripe before harvest-
ed.

the 34 Ford Motor Company j
branches was driven over a route j
embracing the territory served by
that particular branch.
Despite the adverse circumstan-
ces under which many of the cars
operated, and the widely varing
conditions which existed, per-
formance was remarkable uni-
form throughout the entire series
of runs. In every ^ase fuel con-
sumption was che"ked by an of-
ficial observer ^’ho (carried the
key to the gasoline tank, and
carefully recorded each refueling.
These records ^'ow that most of
the Mercury enrs averaged some-

lob, the over-all average being
20.83 miles.
