DALLAS—A swinging melody and catchy words—in a new song about
John Nance Garner, Vice President, has just been published under the
title: “Cactus Jack,” by the songwriting combination o: Rex Lampman
and Jack Foy.
Amateur song-writers have deluged the Dallas headquarters of the
Garner-for-Presideut campaign with new verses, of their own writing.
The song has eight v rses, but only four are printed herewith, as follows:
if the river ain’t dry he’ll catch you a fish;
, _ . . , „. _____Cactus Jack with his old seegar,
ThJeesaplentyoi w. .-"of a good cowhand. He’U look rl2ht nics i;l that Whitc House carI
There’s milk avid r . :ey and hot tamales
And the sweet.esl i.umh of “O by gollies.”
The sky is wide and high and blue,
And you say to strangers “how de do.”
There’s room to breathe or to bet a stack.
There’s the blue bonnet girls and there’s
Cactus Jack:
. 5 Won’t you help a poor,
. 4el man?
Victim — You look healthy
vdiigh. In what way are you crip-
pled?
b o—Financially.
Swezuk—Are you familiar with
. pean situation ?
' k >.,e- -Yes, up to half an hour
ago. I haven’t heard the latest
Minister-—But, my dear sir,
“ 1 Ians don’t call for a spire
oi? the new church.
W? t—No, sir; they don’t
pul spires on churches any more,
.ev ’6 too good a mark in ease
Chorus;
Cactus Jack, he’s a-riding straight,
Riding straight for the White House gate.
Don’t look away, don’t look away,
You can’t look away from Texas.
We’ll tell you this about Cactus Jack;
He’s quick on the trigger or a wisecrack.
Just as wise as an old horned toad—
There ain’t very much he’s never knowed!
He can hogtie a yearling quick as you wish,
We’ll tell you this about Cactus Jack:
He’s got no time for a fraud nor a quackl
And when you see his spurs and hat,
You know there goes a Democrat!
He can uncork a speech, let freedom ring.
Slap the back of a British king!
Cactus Jack, with his lariat,
He’s going to rope the White House yet!
We’ll tell you this about Cactus Jack;
He’s hit the trail and he won’t turn back;
He’s riding high and he’s riding straight.
And he’s headed for the White House gate!
From Amarillo tc San Antone
They’ll tell you J ack ha^ never been thrown;
Ki, yi, yippee! Cactus Jack!
He’ll hang his hat on the White House rack.
Boogy—You an orator? Why, j
you can’t even speak good Eng-'
lish.
Woogy—Well, Cicero couldn’t
speak English, but he was a great
orator.
Boogy—You’re just about the
funniest guy I know. Why every
time I look at you I have to laugh.
Woogy—And you? iW'hy you’re
so funny that every time I see you
I have a guilty feeling that I’m
doing the government out of en-
tertainment taxes.
Clara—There goes Mabel. I
wish were only half as pretty as
she is.
Jack—Oh, but you are.
Quiggle—Bunchuk has a r<£
markable memory.
Polyxeni—What does he remem-
ber that’s so remarkable?
Quiggle—Why he remembers a
fall that Avas exactly like this one.
Look to your health! And if
yon have it, praise God and value
it next to a good conscience.

. ONE OF ~SIX employed in build-
ing the international boundary levee
along the Rio Grande, an experi-
mental model of a new crawler
-tractor, the fastest and most pow-
erful ever developed for industrial
purposes, plows through the thick
Texas gumbo with 20 tons of earth
behind it. Powered by a six-cylin-
der General Motors 2-cycle Diesel
engine, it is said to travel 150 feet
per minute faster than comparable
machines now on the market, and
practically doubles the economical
length of haul in dirt-moving oper-
ations. The new tractor with a mod-
ern, streamlined radiator grille and
hood will be placed in production
the first of the year at the Spring-
field, 111., Allis-Chalmers works.
