Sally (patriotically)—I want
to' do my bit for defense, dad.
I’m going to get a dressmaker to
teach me how to cut out frocks.
Dad—I won’t let you go that
far, young lady, but I do think
you could cut out $20 hats, expen-
sive perfumes, cigarettes and
cocktails.
Judge—Hank, I have known
you for many years. I am sorry
that my first duty is to try you
for being intoxicated. What was
your reason, if any, for getting
drunk ?
Offender—To celebrate your e-
lection, your honor.
Boogy—You look down-hearted,
old man. What are you worried
about ?
Woogy—My future.
Boogy—-What makes your fu-
ture seem so hopeless?
Woogy—My past.

A Kindergarten Kitchen
Teaching the Young Idea to Cook.
rTVHE little Housewives in the ac-
companying picture are learning
to cook under the most favorable
circumstances. The kitchen has
been turned into a playroom. Each
little housekeeper is provided with
a toy electric stove of the latest pat-
tern, equipped with the newest gadg-
ets. A smiling teacher attends to
correct all mistakes.
The appearance of the playroom
stoves indicates that the menus un-
der way will be comparatively
simple. The toylike saucepans and
frying pans are cooking more or less
palatable soups or stews and pan-
cakes. The proverbial drudgery of
the kitchen has been eliminated.
There are no iires to struggle over.
A turn of the switch in the electric
stoves develops just the right tem-
perature and the thermometer
warns of the danger of scorching.
The kindergarten kitchen begins
the training of the little housewives
at the tender age'of six years. Each
prospective cook is provided with
her own stove and cooking utensils
It is clear that the entire class
while serious about their work is
greatly enjoying it. The little house
wives and their toy kitchen in the
picture were photographed at the
Leipzig Fair. The toy electric stoves
were part of an exhibi. of hundreds
of the newest designs in stoves gath
ered from many countries. Every
year buyers from all parts of the
world attend the famous Fair to
study the latest progress in every
form of household furniture and
equipment. The next Fair held March
3-11 will include 10.000 exhibits of
every conceivable art and industrial
product.
