That wasn't all - a third place

To add fuel to an already full
measure. Alpha Delta Mu, in
cooperation with represen-
tatives from two other Beta
Sigma Phi chapters in
Portland. Omega Kpsilon and
Xi Mu (jamina. decided the
time was right to host the area
convention for 1982 The bid was
happily accepted by the con-
vention
There was an estimated .TOO
women at the 1981 convention
Many more are expected for
the 1982 convention in Portland
due to its central location in the
area It is expected that all
chapters here will work to
make the convention a success.
At this time there are four
chapters here but by the time
the convention comes around
there should be five chapters
The prize-winning costumes
worn by Alpha Delta Mu were
“good guys" and "bad guys"
cowboy outfits, featuring black
pants, black vests emblazoned
with the Greek symbol for
Alpha Delta Mu and the name
Portland, and trimmed in gold
Christmas tinsel; white long
sleeve biouses; and either a
white i good i straw hat or a
black < bad) straw hat trimmed
with tinsel and a large 50
denoting the 50th anniversary
of Beta Sigma Phi Stick
horses, with personalities of
their own, delivered the
members into the convention
center with the “good guys"
-winning out in the ensuing gun
battle with the "bad guys".
Name tags, prize winners
too. were designed of popsickle
sticks as corral gates adorned
with lariats of rope and bran-
ding irons of metal, which were
branded by members names.

unconventional dinner at the

was served by Paul Kevere and
a fond goodnight was supplied
by Gentle Ben A birthday par-
ty for Bonnie Hall with a
lighted banana candle and
fresh oranges along with a tier-
man chocolate cake will long be
remembered, especially by
Bonnie, a member said
The strong sure pitching ami
of Dianne Slarcher helped to
get the Sunday morning return
trip to Portland off to a quick
start and an 18-wheeler
decorated with gold Oiristmas
tinsel nnd a Yoakum or Bust"
sign created a few minutes of
excitement for members w hen
the drivers of the truck looked
out to see what hit their motel
room door
After breakfast at a San An-
tonio restaurant, the group bid
a tearful farewell to form
member Gail Adams as she left
for Hound Rock
Talk of the 1982 convention
made the trip home from San
Antonio seem a little shorter
for Debbie Martmdale, Betty
Davidson. Adrienne Sutton.
Ann Marie Urunkenhoefer.
Bonnie Hall. Dianne Starcher.

Holliday, Jeannie Wmnard and

The best news after arriving
in Portland was of member
Mary Havelka who had been
admitted to the hospital on
March 19 with a suspected mild
heart attack Mrs Havelka was
instead reported to have suf-
fered a severe muscle spasm
and not a heart attack and the-
