GOOD ONLY ONCE
A bee is able to sting only
once, because its stinger pulls out
and remains imbedded in the vic-
tim. The bee itself dies shortly af-
ter losing its stinger.
Studies made by the Bureau of
Home Economics indicate that
from $85 to $100 per person per
year is required for a “good”
diet.
Four out of five farm homes in
Texas have no modern bathing
facilities.

Sodium Flouride, either pure
or mixed with equal parts of
flour,-is the ticket for killing
cockroaches.
Roaches will tackle almost any
kind of food and usualU pollute
several times more than they act-
ually eat. The pests hang out in
the kitchen or pantry or other
places where food is kept.
For control, dust sodium flour-
ide in the places frequented by
the roaches, especially along the
edges of the room. The best re-
sults will be obtained by use of
a dust gun which will force the
dust into cracks and crevices.
The insecticide is most effec-
tive when aplied in the evening,
since roaches do not move around
much in the day time.
“Sodium flomule is toxic to
men and animals and should not
be used wherp childlren may get
at it,” warns Cameron Siddall,
entromologist of the Texas A. and
M. Extension Service.
“It can be swept out each
morning, but I recommend ground
pyrethrum in homes where there
are small children.” Pvrethum is
not poisonous to humans.
The entomologist says commer-
cial sprays are not effective un-
less the insects are actually hit
by the spray.
Dairying a fast-expanding in-
dustry on Texas farms, will be
saluted throughout the month of
June, which has been designated
National Dairy Month. Plans, for
the featuring of milk and milk
products at every counter, from
the cross-roads stores to the large
chain stores and drink fountains
and restaurants counters were
worked out at a week-end meeting
of milk producers.
The nearest approach to the fa-
ble Fountain of Youth yet dis-
covered is milk. . whether from
the deep white cloth-covered
crock in the cool spring milk-
house or from the utilitarian bot-
tle left outside the door by the
milkman in the early morning.
The farmers of Texas have 450
million dollars invested in their
enterprises, and receive about 15
per cent of their total farm in-
come from the sale of dairy pro-
ducts. Texas has 1,350,000 dairy
cows, which produce about 4y2*
billion pounds of milk yearly,
having, a farm value of 80 mil-
lion dollars or more.
