The Bucks’ Tale
VOL. X Edited Weekly by Students )f Journalism of White Deer High School NUMBER 10
THEME OF COMMENCEMENT
PROGRAM IS “I DARE YOU”
END—OR BEGINNING?
That moment is near at hand
when we seniors will march up to
he presented with our diplomas.
Why is that night which marks
the ending or our high school ca-
reer called commencement, wrich
means the beginning? It is so-
called because after graduating
the graduates begin building a life
of their own. Some may go and
acquire more knowledge Ibefore
they be<rin their struggle of life
in this modern fast-moving world.
The others will seek jobs in in-
dustry or on farms and build
homes of their own.
Some of these graduates will
(progress higher • and higher with
success and happiness their re-
ward for their efforts, while oth-
ers will mass fortunes seeking
that thing called happiness. Yet
others will find their place in the
vast expanse of human activities
and lead a simple yet happy life
devoted to their families and fel-
low men. And there is the dis-
tasteful fact that there will be
the inevitable few who will fail.
Friday evening, May 16, at 8
o’clock in the grade school audi-
torium , commencement exercises
will be held, in the form of a “I
Dare You” program given by four
seniors, introduced by jWlendell
Cain, senior sponsor.
The subjects are “ Creative
Thinking”, |by Jennett Moore;
“ Personality, ” by Delores Bish-
op; “Chai'acter”, by Kenneth
Huey; and “Physical Fitness”,
by Martha Jo Freeman. The
speeches will be approximately
five minutes long.
Immediately following the
speeches, Principal Glenn F. Da-
vis will present “I Dare You”
books to two seniors whom the
faculty has chosen as most likely
to succeed.
The quartet, consisting of Max
Helen Pickens, La Velle Horton,
Nelrose Horton and Beatrice Hai-
duk, will sing.
A citizenship award given by
the Venado Blanco club will be
presented to the junior or senior
selected1 by the faculty as the
best citizen in those classes.

STOP! LOOK!—and THINK!
Isn’t there room enough in the
White Deer high school halls to be
considerate of others? You may
be indifferent to the fact that the
high school halls are at times like
a thunder storm.
Certain students appear to ut-
terly ignore courtesy and consid-
erations for others Avhen they
start through the halls like a
bunch of Indians on some kind of
Avarpath.
These braves speed through the
halls as if their life depended on
their being the first ones to leave
the school buiuling.
Whistling, laughing, talking,
screaming and pushing', others
drift along, pacing no attention
to the traffic in the halls.
Other students Avaste time in
the halls before classes. They
stand and talk, making the halls
almost impassable for £>ther peo-
ple to get by.
If some big bullies Avould not
act as if they Avere at a boxing
match when they go to their lock-
ers it Avould be much more pleas-
ant for the girls. Do you knoAv
that girls do not like, anybody
AA-ho tries to act cu.te? In case you
did not knoAv this you can at least
do a good turn for your best
.friend !or class mates.
White Deer students are spar-
ed the traffic officers in the halls,
you should 'at least repay this
consideration Avith the respect for
the rights of others. Don!t try to
have all the privilege by yourself.
Think that you are hurting other
students’ feelings.
When our principal tells us to
do certain things around our
school to make it prettier, for
goodness sake, do it! Did you
know that if you do not obey your
teachers, oLj course, you Avill not
obey yQur parents. If you students
do everything that your teacher
wishes you to do in the halls, you
will see that our school will be the
best one in the state of Texas.
