WHAT
IS NEEDED!
Scrap iron and steel, other metals, scrap
rubber, collapsible tin tubes, waste cooking
fats, old manila rope, burlap is needed and
m>ust be collected in every part of the
country. That means your old appliances,
plumbing pipe, ash cans and many other
un-serviceable metal items plus old hot
water bottles, garden hose, tires, boots,
rags, cast-off clothing cam be turned into
guns, planes, tanks, ships and dozens of
other vital war items if you’ll “put them
in production.” Go over your house and
yard with a fine tooth comb . . . get YOUR
scrap into the fight!
Uncle Sam’s war factories need your help to keep up
full-blast production! Our all-out war effort is demand-
ing millions of tons of scrap metals and other materials
to keep our war machine running. Why? Because rough-
ly fifty-percent of scrap iron and steel is required to
make the steel that goes into every tank and gun for our
armed forces! That’s why scrap collection is a vital na-
tional necessity — and you can help make the scrap drive
a resounding success! This page has been sponsored by
the undersigned merchants and individuals as a public
service. Read it... it contains the information you want
to know so that you can do your part in the salvage pro-
gram.
WHY
ITS NEEDED
WHERE
TO TAKE IT!
The facts are simple! Scrap iron and steel
is vital to the production of new steel ar-
ticles! Scrap rubber can be reprocessed
into new articles to aid the war effort!
Other scrap materials are similarly used
and also help meet the needs arising from
the stoppage of imports due to the war,
For example, America no longer. can im-
port rubber from Malaya, hemp from Man-
ila .. . the fabulous imports from the Dutch
Indies are temporarily beyond our grasp.
But all of these things are vital to our war
effort, so EVERYONE from the President
down, must save, salvage arid turn in all
of the scrap he possibly can!
It’s easy to dispose of scrap . . . simply sort
ynrV collection into piles ... metals in one,
rags in another . . . rubber in another ...
and then do one of two things: 1. Take it
to an authorized junk dealer and sell your
scrap at prevailing prices: or 2. Take it to
the local salvage depot just north of the
post office in Panhandle Whe,re it will be
sold and the proceeds given equally to the
U.S.O., Army and Navy Relief and Red
Cross. Call your Salvage Committee Chair-
man, M. C. Davis, at Phone 166 for further
information.
