Practice is a process designed
to make playable a passage at
present unplayable, one that is
imperfectly playable, less so. Re-
petition is the mainstay of im-
provement in specific passages.
Some points to help the child
in regular practice consist of hav-
ing a definite time each day when
it is most convenient and when
the child most wants to practice.
Things such as the radio playing,
answering the telephone or the
door, errands to run, or tasks to
do should not interfere with the
child’s practice. No day should
go by without practice; twice as
much practice on Saturday will
not make up for the time missed
on Friday. Next, keep your tools
in working order, such as, hav-
ing your music in place, and your
fingernails filed short. Practice
two short periods rather than one
long tiring period; and last, know
definitely what you are to work
on.
