This picture was taken on the east side of
main street facing south-west. All of the exci-
tement is caused by a fire behind the buildings
in the picture. The people who owr the buildings
ha*e removed all of the valued belongings from
the building. As you can see, a bucket brigade
has formed over the tops of the buildings and the
men are trying to put the blaze out. The bank
at this time is the building in the middle left
of the picture. Just right of the bank is a
double business, on the bottom was Anderson's
Gift Shop and on the top, or the second story,
was a real estate office. Next to this was the
Busy Bee Store. The Busy Bee was a drug store
type of business. This store was originally a
salmon but it was bought and changed to a drug
store. The bar, made of beautiful marble, was
left in the building and was made into a soda
fountain bar. This block now houses the First
National Bank, Baker Jewelers, and the K and R
store. The part of the buildings showing on the
right of the picture used to be a post office.
The first post in Marfa was located where Christ-
opher's Department Store or Cbntirhys Trim Shop
is today.
