Childress, 74, of Gilmer,
loving husband and father,
were held on Monday, June
20, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at the
Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints in Gilmer
with Jimmy Coulter pre-
siding and Steve Tefteller
conducting. Burial was in
Enoch Cemetery under the
direction of Grubbs-Loyd
Funeral Home in Gilmer.
Born on June 26, 1941, in
Gilmer, Texas, to William
Hugh and Monnie Will-
eford Childress, he died on
Thursday, June 16, 2016. He
was a veteran of the United
States Army, a draftsman, a
big Buckeye fan and a mem-
ber of the Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Those left to cherish his
memory are his wife, Ruth
Ann Childress; son and
daughter-in-law, Sidney and
Lizzie Childress; daughters
and sons-in-law, Susan and
Pap Watson, Marjorie Chil-
dress, Vicki and Rodney
Wilson, Luanne and Jon
Bailey, Angie and Shawn
Elkins, Katherine Childress
and Rita and Brent Heisey;
sixteen grandchildren,

dren, Owen and Olivia; one
sister, Nelwyn Nations; nu-
merous nieces and nephews
and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death
by his parents and one
brother, Billy Childress.

Cain, David Nations, Daniel
Nations and Sam Bailey.
The family received
friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on
Sunday, at Grubbs-Loyd
Funeral Home in Gilmer.

Judy Marie Skinner, 64, of
Gilmer, were held on Wednes-
day, June 22, at 11 a.m. at the
Gilmer City Cemetery with
Larry W. Osborne officiat-
ing.
Born on July 18, 1951, in
Upshur County, to Darwin
Odell and Dorothy Rodgers
Jones, she died on Sunday,
June 19.
She was a lifelong resident
of Upshur County, a beauti-
cian and a member of Cal-
vary Baptist Church.
She is survived by one son,
Jimmy Wayne Skinner; one
daughter, Julie Ann Stevens;
five grandchildren, Jael Eliz-
abeth Skinner, Jenna Marie
Skinner, Kamburlee Angel
Nikol Skinner, Jules Marie
Stevens and Kaylee Mae Ste-
vens; five great-grandchil-
dren, Deja Elizabeth Haley,
Felton Darnell Wayne Ha-
ley, Jeannie Marie Skinner,
Rylan Bailey and Mavi Bai-
ley; one brother, James Lee
Jones; two sisters, Carolyn
Jones Brown and Lana Jones
and many nieces and neph-
ews.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; husband,
Jerry Wayne Skinner and
brother, Steven Odell Jones.

Charles James Snider, 85,

He was born July 28,1930
in Big Sandy. He died Sunday,
June 19.
Charles graduated from
Gilmer High School in 1947
and was co-owner of Snider
Lumber Company in Mar-
shall.
He is survived by his wife,
Annis Reese Snider; two
daughters, Karen Snider Wil-
liams and husband, Robert
and Debbie Snider Petta and
husband, Glen; one step-son,
Bruce Croft and wife, Pat;
loving grandchildren and
many great-grandchildren.

1948 - 2016
Jimmy Lynn Smith, 67, of
Gilmer, passed away June
14, at his residence. He was
born Sept. 2, 1948 in Athens,
Texas, to B.A. and Judy Kel-
ley Smith.
He attended schools in
Athens, then joined the U.S.
Army.
He married Debra Kay
Homer on July 17, 1982 in
Idabel, Okla. He retired from
Texas Utilities after over 36
years of service.
He loved to help people. He
was one that always stopped
to help someone out, so if you
were broken down on the side
of the road, he was always
the one to stop and help you.
He absolutely loved to do dirt
work. He would take any op-
portunity to help anyone out
that needed any dozer work
or pad work done.
He is survived by his wife,
Debra K. Smith of Gilmer;
daughters, Tiffany Jones of
Scotland, Ark., Holley War-
ren of Longview and Andrea
Smith; sons, Jason Smith of
Fort Worth and James Travis
Smith of Longview; grand-
children, Madison Jones and
Cameron Jones of Scotland,
Ark., Kaleb Smith of Lindale,
Bailey Downs and Haiden
Downs, Ashlyn Smith and
Kason Smith all of Fort
Worth, Haley Warren and
Wesley Warren and Rylee
Smith all of Longview and
Cody Williamson of Gilmer.
He was preceded in death by
his parents.
A time of visitation with
the family was held on
Thursday, June 16, 2016 at
the Lakeview Funeral Home
in Longview.
Funeral services were
held at the Chapel of Lakev-
iew Funeral Home at 10 a.m.
on Friday, June 17, with the
Dr. Gregg Zachery officiat-
ing.
Entombment followed in
the Lakeview Memorial Gar-
dens Mausoleum.

will host a car wash Saturday,
at ABC Auto Parts in Gilmer,
beginning at 8 a.m.

‘Bill’ Geier
1939 - 2016
A memorial service for
William Charles (Bill) Geier,
76, of Ore City, will be held 10
a.m. Saturday, June 25, at Ce-
dar Springs Baptist Church
in Ore City with the Rev.
Kenneth Mills officiating.
Geier died June 16 at his
home after a long illness.
He was a retired ceramic
engineer who had built brick
plants in Africa, Canada and
the United States. He was also
once employed by Gilmer
Potteries and, at the time of
his death, was on leave from
his job as a greeter at Wal-
mart in Gilmer.
Born Dec. 2, 1939, in New
York City, he attended col-
lege in New York state. He
and his wife, Patsy, were mar-
ried Sept. 1, 1995, and moved
to Ore City three years ago
from Mansfield, Ohio.
He was a hockey fan and
a member of the Lutheran
Church.
He is survived by his wife;
son, William Charles Geier
Jr. of Madison, Wise.; daugh-
ter, Alicia Geier of Chicago,
111.; three stepsons, Clifton
Bullard of Ore City, Jimmy
Bullard of Kelsey communi-
ty and Jeff Bullard of Mount
Vernon; nine step-grandchil-
dren and nine step-great-
grandchildren.
Marianne Hass
1932 - 2016
Marianne Haas, 84, of
Longview, was born on Jan. 3,
1932 in Chicago, 111. to Harry
and Anne Gottschalk.
She died at her residence on
June 14. Cremation arrange-
ments are under the direction
of Grubbs-Loyd Funeral Home
in Diana.
She was preceded in death
by her husband, Otto W. Haas,
Sr. in 2015.
She is survived by her
daughter and son-in-law,
Christine and John Culver.
No service is planned at this
time.

Corrales, of Hunt County,
is a freshman studying po-

lected a national alternate
delegate from Congressional
District 4, represented by
U.S. Rep. John Ratcliffe (R-
Heath.)
Ratcliffe’s district en-
compasses most of Upshur
County, where the Cherokee
Rose club is based.
Corrales has served as
an election clerk, election
judge and GOP precinct
chairman.

Hughes Springs, were
held at 1 p.m. Tuesday,
June 21, at Turkey Creek
Baptist Church in Hughes
Springs.

Ms. Lee loved her fam-

Claudene Bowden West, 83,
of Marietta, Texas, were held
at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 16,
at Oak Hill Cemetery in Bet-
tie, with the Rev. Chas Carl-
isle officiating.
Services were under the
direction of Harrison Funer-
al Home in Naples.
She was born Oct. 23, 1932
in Gilmer, to Claude Elton
Bowden and Bertha Edith
Turner Bowden.
She died Monday, June 13,
at her home.
She retired from the Up-
shur County Tax office. She
was a member at Oak Ridge
Baptist Church in Marietta.
She enjoyed dancing, work-
ing in the yard and fishing.
She was preceded in death
by her parents and her hus-
band, Bill West.
Claudene is survived by
one sister and brother-in-law,
Sarah and Stony Osmon and
numerous other relatives.
The family received
friends Wednesday, June 15,
at the funeral home.

Shuler, 47, of Gilmer will be
held at 10 a.m., Thursday
June 23, 2016 at the cha-
pel of McWhorter Funeral
Home with the Pastor Jan
Simmons officiating. Inter-
ment will follow at Morris
Cemetery. The family will
received friends Wednes-
day, June 22, at the funeral
home.
John was born Sept. 8,
1968 in Irving, Texas. He
passed away June 18, 2016
in Tallapoosa County, Ala.
He was a man of faith
and a member of Trium-
phant Christian Center in
Longview. He lived his life
with vigor and passion. On
April 23, 1988, in Glade-
water, he married Stacy
Knight, and spent the last
28 years devoted to her and
their family. They had two
daughters, Sunni Anne
Shuler and Leora Grace
Shuler that he cherished
and adored, and they all
survive him to carry on the
legacy of love and family
that he spent his lifetime
demonstrating.
John was the president
of the Upshur County
Youth Soccer Association
and committed countless
hours of service to the
youth of Upshur County.
He was dedicated to leav-
ing his community a better
place and worked tirelessly
to do that through soccer.
John was preceded in
death by his parents, James
Shuler and Quana Belle
Gulledge.
He is also survived by
his sister, Bettina Lance,
as well as a multitude of
friends that will all feel the
loss of his warmth and en-
thusiasm.
Pallbearers will be Bran-
don Escalante, Ben Dodd,
Jae Elwell, Glen Gulledge,
Felipe Ibarra and Buddy
Clift.
