Help Taxpayers Aim
of AssistanceProgram
of Revenue Service
The broad objective of the tax-
payer assistance program conduct-
ed By the Internal Revenue Ser-
vice this year is to hell) the tax-
payers to help themselves in fill-
ing out thoir 1953 income tOx re-
turns, District Director of Inter-
nal Revenue R. L. Phlnney an-
nounced.
"Our purpose is to show tax-
payers the correct method of pre-
paring their returns, to render as-
sistance and give advise on points
which the taxpayer needs to have
explained or clarified, rather than
a gratuitous service of filling out
their returns for them,” Director
Phlnney said. "This program is
directed at those taxpayers who
require help in Hie form of advice
as dlstinquished from an invita-
tion to all taxpayers to come to
our office and have their returns
prepared by Internal Revenue per-
sonnel. ”
"Most taxpayers are easily able
to prepare their own returns with-
out assistance by a study of tho
forms and Instruction booklets
they received. Taxpayers requiring
assistance Involving accounting
service or taxpayers having a
group of complicated problems
should secure professional as-
sistance.
Where local offices are main-
tained competent Internal Revenue
personnel have been assigned to
answer questions and give advice
both by telephone and in personal
consultations. In Brady the ad-
dress and phone number of the
local office are Basement, Post
Office Building Tel. No. 2237.”

Social Security,
Workers Advised
When the children have corner-
ed the TV set with a “bang-bang”
Western and the missus has grab-
bed the local newspaper for a re-
cipe try-out, and you’ve got a
few minutes to spare before the
hoys come over for the weekly
pinocle game—how about taking
advantage of this time to take
another look at your Social Se-
curity?
In fact, take a double look, is tho
advice given by George Clark,
manager of the San Angelo Social
Security office.
Clark says, "There's no time like
now to plan for the future—for
your family income when you re-
) tire or die. Workers who make
financial plans for tomorrow will
find themselves in better shape
than those who do little or no
planning.

"As a starter, you might look
twice at your social security pro-
i tection. Wluit docs it provide ?
First, old-age benefits for you
and your family when you retire
at or after age 05. Second, sur-
vivors insurant1 for your family in
case of your death at any age.
| If you have any doubt as to
1 how you stand under Social Sccur-
| ity, Clark recommends you sec*
Holly Rees on his next visit to
Brady.
“He will give you a pamphlet
which explains in non-technical
language what Social Security
means to you, or yon can get a
complete and accurate answer to
your own special question,” Clark
says.
Rees, field representative of the
San Angelo Social Security office
will be in Brady Wednesday, Feb.
3, at 1:30 p. m. in the district
courtroom.
