and Marconi daisies in a silver
bowl. Other table appointments
were also of silver. Silver Bells
of Ireland were scattered over the
white linen cloth.
Miss Charlotte Tompkins left
Saturday for a vacation in the
Black Hills.

Biggs Circles of the Baptist W.
M. U. met in joint meeting Tues-
day morning in the home of Mrs.
Bill Thorn for a program presented
by the Junior G. A. under the
direction of Mrs. C. L. Edwards
and Mrs. G. A. Mahler. Presenting
the program were Rosemary Os-
borne, Louise NeSmith, Bette Ed-
wards, Lavada King, Diane Mah-
ler, Judy Orr, Jenny Harper and
Sandra Price. Diane, Bette and
Rosemary gave the G. A. memory
work and were passed to the next
step.
Mre. Howard Amick, Blanche
Groves circle chairman, resigned
as she is moving to Amarillo. Both
she and Mrs. Clint Williams, who
is moving to McLean, were pre-
sented gifts from both circles by
Mrs. Wayne Briskill.
Mrs. C. H. Bell closed the meet-
ing with a prayer.

on vacation at Creede, Colo. They

the Southwestern Investment Co.

BUDGET HEARING
At a regular meeting of Commissioner’s Court,
Monday, July 27th, 1953, it was voted that the Public
Hearing of Carson County’s 1953 Budget will be had
on Monday morning, August 24th, 1953, at 10:00
o’clock in Commissioners’ Court Room, at the Court
House, Panhandle, Texas. A11 persons interested are
rquested to attend. Budget will be on file in County
Clerk’s office from July 27th until date of Hearing.

The Girl Scout day camp, which
is to he conducted August 10-14
in Paul Park ,is open to all girls,
seven year old or older, who are
interested-in a week of fun in
camping. Girls wishing to attend
the camp are urged to turn in
their registration at once to'Mrs.
J. C. McCollough.
A fee of 50 cents per camper
must accompany each registration.
Camp letters have been mailed to
all Girl Scouts and Brownies. Any
girl who has not received the letter
can secure one from Mrs. McCol-
lough at the time her registration
is made.
All persons who are interested
in assisting in any way with the
day camp are asked to contact
Norma Ewing immediately^ A
training schedule for the coun-
selors will be announced later.
This year the hours for the camp
will be 8:30 a. m. to 12:30 p. m.
ENSIGN R. C. DETTEN
HAS 2 WEEKS’ LEAVE
Ensign Robert C. Detten, who
was graduated from the United
States Naval School at Newport,
R. I., July 10, and at that time
received his commission has been
visiting his family on his two
weeks’ leave. Near Panhandle he
visited his .parnts, Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Detten and brothers, Rich-
ard, Raymond and Joseph.
At Amarillo he visited his broth-
er, Tom Detten, Mrs. Detten and
Cathy, and in Denver, Colo., his
sister, Mrs. A. V. Crandall, Mr.
Crandall and Michelle. Last Fri-
day he flew to Washington, D. C.,
for a two weeks’ stay and theh will
go to Yorktown, Va., for a ten
wqek’s course before assuming
overseas duties.
Guests of Mrs. J. L. Carhart
Wednesday were her nephew,
Virgil Merchant, Clarendon, and
sisters, Mrs. J. M. Ozier, Temple,
and Mrs. Cal Merchant, Clarendon.
Mrs. J. A. Whiteside underwent
surgery at St. Anthony’s Hospital,
Amarillo, Wednesday morning.
She is reported to be doing as well
as can be expected.
Mr. and Mrs. Ray West, Skelly-
town, announce the engagement
and approaching marriage of their
daughter, Betty, to Wallace Glass-
cock, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. W»
Glasscock, Velma, Okla. The wed-
ding is planned for Aug. 9 in the
First Methodist Church, White
Deer.
Mrs. David Warren, Jr., and
daughter, Janet, accompanied by
Mrs. Warren’s mother, Mrs. W. L.
Campbell of Pampa, left Wednes-
day for Houston to attend the'
wedding of ‘Jane Burr, who was:
a bridesmaid at Mrs. Warren’s-
wedding a few years ago.
