Mr. Kelley, below Alexander, re-
ports that some Mexicans i appeared
in the neighborhood a short time
since and remained several days.
They could be found around the
farms at night, but disappeared in
the day time. This excited the sus-
picion of the citizens, and they in-
stituted search after the Mexicans.
Finally one of the white men found
a big rock with an arrow carved in
it, and some distance ahead was
found an old fashion oven containing
the imprints of money. It seems
the Mexicans had a plat of the coun-
try, but the surroundings had been
fenced up so it was hard for the
Mexicans to find the place of the
buried treasure, but they succeeded,
and left the country with it before
the white men found out what they
were after. We learn that the oven
is at Mr. Dozier's. It is supposed
that the oven contained several
thousand dollars in coin.

Several months past the Empire
published accounts of several fisti-
cuffs and knockdowns on our public
streets, and the parties are highly
indignant. The fair-minded, peace-
loving element in Erath county know
that the Empire has only done its
duty, and pay little attention to the
bluster and frothings of those who
imagine they have been injured. If
one fights in public places we see no
reason why the particulars should
be excluded from the press. The
fighting was done publicly, and evi-
dently the party is ashamed of it or
he would not kick so vigorously
when the press gives the simple
facts. ___
A meeting was held Tuesday night

attendance was so slim' that the elec-

take a lively interest in this organi-

need the fire laddies in case of a

good fire company, and it will soon

In all truth the fathers and moth-
