the murderer washed his hands.
Without the slightest clew to
work on, except a shirt button
picked up near the bloody pool,
officers and detectives got busy
on the case at once but had made
no new discovery up to Tuesday
night. They were at a loss for a
motive as the young lady had no
enemies that anyone knew of,
and the safe being unmolested
did not indicate intention to rob.
Later:—Chief Detective Henry
Tanner said to a Dallas News re-
porter Wednesday night: “The
developments of this afternoon
make us more hopeful of the so-
lution* of the case than at
anytime since Miss Brown’s
body was found.” He did not
acquaint the reporter with what
had developed, however.
