called ‘ ‘ Smokescreen. ’ ’ This
drama requires a cast of two

Smokescreen has had a remark-
able career. For several years
it was on professional tour and
was released to amateurs in 1933,
In 1934 it won the Texas High
School contest at the state-meet.
The next year it won the Inter-
collegiate Contest in Texas. With
such a play, casting the parts
will not be easy. Miss Ruth How-
ard will direct the play.

Books on Safety
Education Arrive—
Within the brief period of
forty years the automobile has
changed American life and man-
ners. Much as the broncho and
the steam train gave new impetus
to travel, so too the car has
brought speed, feficieney. and
ease to traveling America.
A terrifying and baffling pro-
blem which staggers the nation
has arisen during the last twenty
years. It involves control of the
driver and the automobile. The
question is, can America control
driving ?
Over' a hundred supplementary
readers to be used in the eighth
and ninth grade English classes
as sources of written and oral re-
ports on safety education have
been received. The book, called
“Drive and Live,” is presented
to assist in the fight against un-
safe practices and in the crusade
for sane driving.

The homemaking classes held
their first meeting in the high
ishjbol auditorium,', Wednesday
evening. The meeting was called
to order by our president, Ed-
wina Watt. We then had the
secretary’s report by Ida Louise
Walters; Miss Hauk gave the
treasurer’s report, since our
treasurer, Bonnie Hall was absent
Three of our club girls, Eliza-
beth Smith, Virginia Smith and
Jane Isbill, accompanied by Mrs.
II. G. Isbill, at the piano, sang
“A Gold Mine in the Sky.”
Miss Hauk spoke briefly about
the work of our department and

ing up the whole system by helping
women to get more energy from
their food—and so increases re-

“Just Around the Comer” Coming to Ritz
Based on what is said to be the
most original story idea ever con-
ceived for a Shirley Temple pic-
ture, “Just Around the Corner”
will show at the Ritz Theatre for
two performances, next Tuesday
and Wednesday, with America’s
number one star surrounded by a
splendid cast.
The story concerns the hilari-
ous, but happy consequences
which arise when Shirley con-
fuses a wealthy old banker,
(whose name happens to be “Un-
cle Sam” Henshaw) with the lean
and be-whiskerecl gentleman who
is the symbol of our national life.
Charles Farrell. Joan Davis,
Amanda Duff (a promising new-
comer) Bill Robinson, Bert Lahr
and others are featured. See
Shirley in one of her most pleas-
ing pictures—you’ll like it!
