On June 20, the twen-
ty-seventh anniversary of
her parent’s wedding,
Miss Martha Lee Bender,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Marvin Lenard Bender,
became the bride of Don
Ernest Sheets of Canyon.
Parents of the bride-
groom are Mrs. Nettie
Lee Sheets and the late
W. E. Sheets of Canyon.
The Rev. Joe R. Ken-
nedy, Jr., minister of the
First Christian Church of
Winfield, Kan., read the
double ring candlelit
ceremony before an altar
centered with a bronze
altar set, backed by a
large arrangement of
white lace gladioli and
mums. Arched candela-
bra, garlanded with fern
and draped with white
silk bridal illusion encir-
cled other floral arrange-
ments on p e d e s t a 1 s of
white and gold. A white
satin kneeling bench com-
pleted the setting.
The church windows
were lighted with cathe-
dral tapers. The bridal
aisle was decorated with
white silk ribbons andthe
family pews were marked
with clusters of white lace
wedding bells.
Mrs. FrankSims, 11,
organist, played a nupital
prelude and the tradition-
al wedding processional
and recessional. She ac-
companied Mrs. Lowell
Pool of Canyon, soloist,
who sang, “Whither Thou
Goest,” and “Because”,
preceding the ceremony,
and closed the ceremony
with “The Wedding Pray-
er”.
Candlelighters were
Ronald Bender, brother of
the bride, and Sherrie
Welch, Stratford, Okla.,
cousin of the bride. She
wore a mint green Da-
cron polyester dress,
made similar to the honor
attendants.
Serving as matron of
honor was Mrs. Madalyne
Craig of Amarillo.
Bridesmaids were Miss
Billie Hanson, Miss Dar-
lvnn Moris and Miss Ann

Tapper, all of Amarillo,
and Miss Janice Boren of
Hereford. All wore dres-
ses of mint green Dacron
polyester, made with fit-
ted bodices, scop neck-
lines, cap sleeves and
tucked bouffant street
length skirts. Their ac-
cessories were white and
they wore shoulder length
veils of mint green net,
held by bow headpieces
of the dress fabric. They
carried cascade bouquets
of white beauty asters,
tied with mint green rib-
bons.
Bill Piehl of Canyon
was best man. Grooms-
men were Shirley Sheets,
of Houston and Wyley
Sheets of Canyon, broth-
ers of the bridegroom;
Don Golden and Ben
Woods, both of Amarillo
brothers-in-law of the
bridegroom.
Ushers were Jody
Sheets and Jess Sheets
both of Canyon, brothers
of the bridegroom, and
Marvin Bender, brother
of the bride.
Given in marriage by
her father, with the “her
mother and I” avowal the
bride wore a gown of im-
ported Chantilly lace over
taffeta. The basque bodice
was enhanced by long fit-
ted sleeves, which came
to points over her hands.
The Sabrina neckline was
outlined in sequins and
seed pearls. Her full skirt
fell into a cathedral train.
Her waist-length veil of
French illusion fell from
a pillbox hat of lace, em-
broidered with seed
pearls. Her only jewel-
ry was a locket belonging
to her maternal grand-
mother.
She carriedawhite
Bible, given to her by the
bridegroom, which was
topped with a cascade
bouquet of anthemom
curls, centered with a
white orchid. The strea-
mers of white picot rib-
bons were knotted w i t h
silk illusion tufts.
Following the wedding
a reception was given in
the fellowship hall of the
church. The bride’s table
was laid with a white
net cloth over mint green
satin. It was centered with
the bridesmaids bouquets
flanked by white candles
in silver holders. Other
table appointments were
of crystal and silver.
Serving the three tiered
green and white wedding
cake, which was topped
with a miniature bride
and groom, was Mrs. M.
C. Surratt. Mrs. James
Ackley, served the punch.
Registering the guests
was Mrs. Jerry Don Ea-
gle.
Others in the house-
party were Mrs. O. L.
Welch and Mrs. J. H.
Welch of Stratford, Okla.,
grandmother and aunt of
the bride; Mrs. W. L.
Harrington of Brooklyn,
N.Y., and Mrs. A. W. Dills
other aunts of the bride;
Mrs. L. R. Meaker, Mrs.
Clarence Shepard, Mrs.
R. H. Firzgerald, Mrs.
Billy R. Algoe of Groom,
and Miss Marian Rhodes.
For a wedding trip to
Galveston, Texas, Mrs.
Sheets traveled in a two-
piece suit of blue and
white whipcord, with
white leather trim, three-
quarter leangth sleeves
and coat. Her accessories
were red and white and
she wore the orchid from
her bridal bouquet.
Mrs. Sheets is a gradu-
ate of Panhandle High
School and of West Tex-
as State Uni ver sity in
Canyon where she was a
member of Chi Omega.
She is employed by the
Canyon Independent Scho-
ol District as a speech
therapist. Her husband is
a graduate of Spearman
High School and of WTSU
and self employed as a
trucking contrator.
After July 1, Mr. and
Mrs. Sheets will be at
home in Canyon.

salad supper in the home
of Mrs. W. C. Surratt
hosted by Mrs. Surratt,
Mrs. Monty Bell and Mrs,
R. F. Surratt.
